Introduction

Rural areas and smaller cities encounter limited telecommunications infrastructure, especially
those which are geographically remote and isolated telecommunications infrastructure. In this
assessment, we take Bario community telecentre and a Bario clinic which is located in small
and remote village Bario near KL, Malaysia which lacks telecommunication infrastructure.

Scenario:

The Bario community telecentre houses 30 personal computers (PCs) intended for use by the
community to access the Internet as well as to use software such as word processors and
spreadsheet. It is located in a corner unit in a single-storey building and is connected to the
Internet via a VSAT satellite link. The Bario clinic is situated on a hill about 100m away from
the telecentre. At the clinic, a stand-alone PC is placed in a room with a window facing the
telecentre. The clinic needs to be connected to the telecentre and the Internet as well.

Assuming your team has been appointed as the network consultant specialists to deploy a
wireless LAN to an existing wired LAN and vice versa, prepare a detailed technical report to
be presented to the management of Bario Society which covers the following criteria for both
Bario community telecentre and a Bario clinic:

a) Site survey and other related considerations for deploying Wireless solutions.
b) Hardware and Software requirements, considerations, and justifications
c) Security implementation requirements,
d) Monitoring and Maintenance considerations,

Diagrams and figures are highly encouraged to substantiate and complement the facts
included.
