INTRODUCTION

Corruption is the use of public funds for private gains. There are different forms of Corruption which
included the following bribery, embezzlement ,influence peddling, illicit enrichment, abuse of office or
authority, diversion and nepotism. Also Corruption undermines investment and perpetuates the
siphoning off of public resources for private advantages. Countries with low income levels are identified
as most corrupt in the corruption perception indicated by published annually transparency international.
Tanzania is a developing country and the rate of corruption is high during the fifth government regime
by honorable John Pombe Magufuli. Tried to lower the level of corruption in Tanzania. Also in Tanzania
they form different approaches to solve the problems of corruption like formation of prevention and
combating of corruption bureau (PCCB) establishment of controller and auditor General (CAG) and was
established under article 143 of Tanzania constitution. Also director of Public prosecution (DPP)
established under article 59B of constitution of Tanzania. Prevention and combating of corruption Act
(11) of 2007 (PCCA) was enacted to fight against corruption in Tanzania. In 1984 economic and
organised crime control Act (ECOCCA) established economic with jurisdiction over cases of economic
crimes including corruption.

The following are various ideas propounded by author to fight corruption in Tanzania.

Establishment of anti corruption court;in order to ensure corruption offenders are prosecuted
effectively the government amended the economic and organised crime control Act (ECOCCA)
the anti corruption court has jurisdiction to hear and determine corruption and economic
offence as stipulated in the first scheledue of the Act.

Formulation of prevention and combating of corruption bureau (PCCB);section 5 of prevention


and combating of corruption Act (PCCA)established prevention and combating of corruption
bureau as an independent public body and mandated to take public measures for the
prevention and combating of corruption in public parastatal and private sector. Authorised
officers of prevention and combating of corruption bureau have power to arrest, enter
premises, search detain suspects and sieze properties of the suspected person.

Presidents influence;during the reign of honorable John Pombe Magufuli the level of corruption
was lowered down because he comes with different new and dictatorial rules against the
corrupt leaders as started by formulating a new organised prevention and combating of
corruption bureau (PCCB) the appointment of top officials and directors of prevention and
combating of corruption bureau should made by independent appointment board.

Reporting and accountability;the government leaders should be transparent and accountable to


report the issues of corruption in their all levels. Also the formation of parliamentary
committees on administration and local government (PCALG) is mandated to oversee affairs of
all agency under president office including prevention and combating of corruption bureau.

In nutshell corruption in Tanzania was the major enemy of development as made development
to be slowly as most of the government officials are corrupt also in order to solve those
shortcomings the government formulated prevention and combating of corruption Act
(PCCA),prevention and combating of corruption bureau (PCCB) and other forms of effort made
by government in order to solve the questions of corruption in Tanzania.
