2. Explain 2 reasons why a supermarket might decide to store files in the cloud
rather than in its own file servers [ 4 marks ]

Their data is stored remotely and it is accessible wherever there is internet access.

3. Explain the advantages to a team who are working remotely of uploading and
using files in the cloud [ 6 marks ]

- CCTV cameras enable emergency services to be contacted

Benefits of the use of data

The benefits of using data include:

- Large amounts of data can be found using a range of data stores
- Searches can be made to find the specific data required
- Time does not have to be wasted collecting new data
- Data can be shared by teams carrying out the same tasks
- A range of different analysis can be carried out on data
- Data stores can interact to share data, e.g. the police and DVLA.

Drawbacks of the use of data

The drawbacks of using data include:

- It is not always possible to know that the data is correct if it has been gathered by
someone else
- Errors in the data can have negative impacts on people
- It may not be possible to get the specific data required
- Data must be kept up to date, and the data owners informed when updates are made
- Incorrect data can lead to incorrect results – GIGO
- Sensitive data must be securely stored with good data security measures.

to the energy provider. The gas or electricity supplier will be able to ensure that they
have accurate meter readings of energy usage due to the smart meter.
3. Secondary data isn't fitted to the researcher's needs because it was gathered for a
different purpose in the past. The secondary data could be of poor quality.
