Sermon 1

Meditation on Prayer
Matthew 7:7-8

7 "Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and it will be opened to you. 8 For
everyone who asks will receive; everyone who seeks will find; and everyone who knocks will be opened.

Prayer is important because it is an important link in our relationship with God. All of its components
such as thanksgiving, praise, asking God's will and so on, are revelations that we are dependent on God.
We recognize in prayer that there is nothing we can do without God's help.

Prayer has levels.

LEVELS OF ASKING PRAYER

The first level is asking. This is the easiest level of prayer. In asking, we ask God to give us the things that
he freely gives. Demands are God's free gifts for all.

Who are those who ask God for grace? The righteous and sinners alike pray this type of prayer. If God
feeds the birds every day, even for sinners God makes the sun shine. Those who ask God can freely
approach, and they will not fail in their request for God's grace.

LEVEL OF SEARCHING PRAYER

This prayer is a searching prayer because what is prayed for cannot be found. This requires extra
work. These are prayers with action.

For example, do you pray to God that the seats in your church would be filled because the members are
not there? That's beautiful! But do you help your pastor to find them?

There are really prayers that after you turn to God, he will not immediately reveal the answer. Because
you will be looking for the response. The answer has already been given. But it's like a gift, wrapped up
and given to you. You have to take action to see God's answer.

Many other things require searching prayer. Like the unity and development of the church, pray for the
spiritual salvation of your family and neighbors.

There is a story about a Christian woman who always prays for the spiritual salvation of her
husband. She always cried when approaching the altar so that her husband could meet the Lord. After
several months of prayer, he did not find the answer, so he asked God. "Lord, why can't my husband be
SAVED? Why is he still drunk? Why won't you listen to me Lord?"
The Lord replied, "Son, I have answered your prayer for a long time. What I am waiting for is you, when
you will share the gospel with your wife!! ?? When are you going to take him to church???"

It's like what Martin Luther once said, "Pray as if everything depends on God, then work as if everything
depends on you."

LEVEL OF PRAYER KNOCKING

The knocking door is now closed. Others call this type of prayer "persevering prayer". This is a type of
prayer for situations that require sacrifice. Sometimes, great sacrifice. It's not because God's heart is
hard. But because of the intensity of the need, God must respond through our actions. Remember that
we are God's hand and foot in the world.
The Lord Jesus has a story, about a man who had a midnight visitor. Since he had nothing to feed the
guest, he approached his friend to ask for bread. But the door was closed and his friend's family was
asleep.

Another story of the Lord is about a lawyer who was ignored by a lady. The woman also did not stop
knocking until she got the answer to her request.

There is a story about a woman from South Korea who prayed for their church to be built. But the
church had no funds, so the work could not be continued. What the woman did, she sold her eyes to a
hospital! Because the value of his eyes is enough to finish the construction of the church. When the
doctor asked him why he was selling his eyes, he told the doctor that it was for their church. The
doctor's feelings were touched by what the woman did and the operation to remove the woman's eyes
did not continue. It was the doctor who responded to the church's need to finish the work. The doctor is
also a member of that church.

There is a chance that our willingness to sacrifice, to fulfill God's will, is the fulfillment of our own
prayer. There is prayer that requires intense fasting (Mark 9:29). Many heroes demanded the freedom
of their country, and they had to give their lives for its fulfillment. Knocking can be a repeated sacrifice
by Christians to make God's will happen here on earth as it is meant to be in heaven.

What is your level of prayer?

Are you staying at the asking level? Trust that God will provide for your needs.

Do you know how to search? Are you taking action to see the hidden fruit of your prayers?

Can you knock now? Are you ready to forget yourself, just to see the answer to your prayer?

Ask, seek, knock. Remember brother, God is always ready to answer prayer.
Sermon 2

"KKK OF PRAYER"
Luke 11:1-13

Our heroes Andres Bonifacio has KKK on his Katipunan flag. If we also study the Prayer taught by the
Lord, it can be divided into three "K".

1. Relationship with God as Father,

2. Duty to obey His will, and
3. Request for our needs.

May the Lord bless us as we listen to His Word.

1. RELATIONSHIP

"Our Father, art in heaven." - Our Relationship with God

Prayer is the preservation of our relationship with God. According to the teachings of the Lord Jesus, we
should call God as "our Father".

a. It gives us proper self-knowledge.

God deals with us as children. This is a great reminder to us of who we are - we are God's children. And
this is the result of our faith in our Lord Jesus. John 1:12-13 says,

"But to all who received and believed in him, he gave the right to become children of God. 13 They
became children of God, not because they were born according to nature or will or the work of man but
their being children is due to God's will."

b. it expresses how God recognizes us.

In 1 John 3:1, God himself recognizes us as his children.

" See how much the Father loves us! He calls us children of God, and that is true.

Even in Romans 8:16, it is said that the Holy Spirit himself testifies that we are children of God. "The
Spirit bears witness, with our spirit, that we are children of God."

2. ROLE

"May Your kingdom come, obey your heart..."

Prayer is for us to express our submission to God's power, to know and obey his will.

a. Prayer is a willingness to know God's will.

In prayer, we seek God's will. God will not obey our will. See for example what 1John 3:9 says,

"The one whom God accepted as his son does not continue in sin, because the life that comes from God
remains in him. And because God is his father, he cannot continue in sin."

b. Prayer is a willingness to obey God's will - "follow Your heart". Disobeying God is resisting God. And
this is the work of the Devil! Because anyone who remains in sin cannot be called a child of God.

3. REQUEST

"Give us food every day, forgive us our sins, keep us away from evil."

a. God is the Sustainer of Life. Through food, life and our breath continue. He is the one who gives us
what we need on a daily basis.

b. God is the forgiver of our sins. We cannot save ourselves from our own sin. Only God has the right to
forgive. All sin is a violation of his will. He is the one we disobey when we commit sin. And only he can
forgive us.

c. Keep us away from Evil - the Evil referred to here is the devil. Prayer is not just talking to God - it is
staying in God's presence. And it is also a turning away from Evil.

We ask in trust in God. We depend on God. We can do nothing if we are separated from Him.

Sermon 3:

Devoted to Prayer

(Renewing Our Prayer Commitment)

Matthew 21:21-22

"If you believe, you will receive, whatever you ask for in prayer."

Prayer is the most well-known spiritual discipline in our relationship with God.

What is Prayer?
Prayer in the common sense is "requests we make to God".

But more than that, prayer is "lifting one's soul to God" (Psalm 25:1). It is raising our soul before
God. Prayer is not forcing God to do what we want. It is submission to what God wants for us.

1. Prayer is seeking God according to Job 23:3

2. Prayer is a good way to know who God is. We will know the Lord better if we always meet
Him. According to John 17:3, "This is eternal life: that they may know you, the one and only true God,
and that they may know Jesus Christ whom you have sent."

3. Prayer is being open to what God can do for us. The Lord said, "Whatever you ask, it will be given to
you."

1. Read and study John 14:13-14

2. Read and study John 15:7-8

Because God can do anything he wants, nothing is impossible with our God!

Right Prayer

1. Pray with faith. Faith is complete trust in God's power.

2. Pray with patience. We often rush our prayers. But remember that God has his own time to answer
us. We often pray too briefly and we don't spend a lot of time talking to God. (Luke 18:1; Heb. 11:6)

3. Pray with submission to God's will. We follow God, not us.

4. Pray with the fear of God - Psalm 25:14

Prayer is the Secret of a Successful Church

Giving time to prayer is giving time to God. So when the church prays, the power of God flows into the
life of the church.

The Example of the Lord Jesus

The Lord Jesus is always tired and sometimes has no time to eat or sleep (Mark 3:20; 6:31) but he never
misses praying according to Matthew 19:23.

Prayer is important so that we can succeed in God's work. Nothing should stand in the way of
it. According to 1Peter 3:7b, "Therefore nothing will hinder your prayer."

Sometimes a lot of work and fatigue get in the way of prayer. Sin and disunity in the church are also
obstacles. But this should not happen to us Christians, so that we can succeed in our work.

In Daniel 10:12-13, it is said that Satan (King of Persia) hindered the prayer of the prophet Daniel. But
with his patient prayer, God sent an angel to strengthen him.

How to Pray?

1. Set a regular time to pray.

2. Plan a day of fasting once or more on Sunday.

3. List the people to be prayed for and the activities of the church. Planned prayer is effective.

4. Pray for the pastors of the church so that we can succeed and many will be saved.

According to the Bible, the apostle Peter succeeded because the church prayed for him (Acts 7:5).
Sermon 4

Effective Prayer

"If you remain in me, and my word remains in you, ask for what you love and it will be given to
you." -John 15:7

All Christians want their prayers to be effective. I don't think anyone can be happier than a
person who God answers after he prays. Many people pray, and many fail in their request to
God. The reason is none other than: our failure to fulfill the rules that the Lord wants us to do, so
that our prayer can be effective.

Rules of Effective Prayer

1. If you abide in Me.

The Lord wants our encounter with Him to be constant and personal. It is not good that we only
call him whenever we have a pressing need. It is not right that God is compared to a medicine
cabinet, which is only looked for when someone is sick. For many people, God is worried when
there is a problem, while God is forgotten when happy.

How can we abide in the Lord?

a. Pray to grant the Holy Spirit

The Holy Spirit is the presence of God in our lives. Said in 1 Cor. 3:16, "Do you not know that
your body is the temple of God and that his Spirit dwells in you?"

b. Live a godly life

If we live with God all the time, we are united with the Lord and this is reflected in our new
personality. 2 Cor. 5:17, "Whosoever is in Christ is one of the new creation."

c. Live according to God's will

Obedience to God's command is important, if we want to ask for his response. God only
responds according to his will. God cannot respond to what is contrary to his will. And even
those who criticize Him cannot be united with the Lord.

d. Love God
God's most important commandment to us is to love him. That is, the biggest sin we can commit
as humans is the lack of love for God. Abiding in God simply means, we let God be with us
through His Spirit, then we live in obedience to His will, and we love God with all our hearts, our
soul, mind and whole strength.

The Lord said, "If you abide in me, and I abide in you, your prayers will be answered."

2. If My Word abides in you

The second rule of effective prayer is this: "If my Words abide in you, whatever you ask in
prayer shall be given to you". The first condition is to abide in Christ, the next condition for a
successful prayer is abiding in His word.
Prayer is "dialogue" and not "monologue". We speak to God, but God also speaks His Word to
us.

How can we stay in the Word of God?

a. Study the Word of God day and night

"He delights in searching the divine teaching, always meditating on it night and day." This is
from Psalm 1:2. No matter how busy we are with our activities, we should give time to reading
the Bible.

b. Follow the Word we study.

James 1:23 says, “Live according to the Word of God. If you only hear it but do not do it, you are
deceiving yourselves.”

c. Always seek God's will in His Word. Only in the Bible can we read God's will, even his plans
for our personal lives, our family, for the church and for the world.
The Prayer God Answers

Not all prayers are answered by God. He responds only to those who are in accordance with his
will. He cannot be forced against his will. In true prayer, God will not follow our will, we will follow
his will. Before praying, let's first ask ourselves;

a. Is it according to God's will that I ask?

b. Do I abide in the Lord?
c. Do I have the Spirit of God?
d. Am I following the Lord?

Sermon 5
Our Ministry of Prayer
1 Timothy 2:1-7

Prayer is an important work of every Christian. It is our listening to the presence of God, like a
baby hugging its mother. Prayer is the breathing of the soul, just as our body needs air.

Prayer is the duty of the whole church. Our constant approach to God proves our trust that God
will fulfill his promises, and he will fulfill his purpose for the church and the world.

Our Conquest of Towns and Cities

Prayer is the ministry of the whole church. That is, it is a duty that every Christian must fulfill, for
the advancement of the evangelization of the world. In a town or city, we need to do widespread
prayer in the church to prepare the conquest of God in the hearts of the citizens and those who
administer the government. It was an offensive of conquest.

In a town, the Christians there found it difficult to establish a church. And if there is a church, it is
not thriving. It was found that in that place there were many witches and worshiping spirits. This
is the reason why it was difficult for the Christians to have a mission in that area, therefore, the
Christians made a mass prayer to destroy the defense of the spiritual forces in the area through
prayer. After fasting and prayer, the Christians conquered the said area, and the churches there
flourished.

1. Prayer for all people.

Many Christians pray only for the sake of a few. Jews, often pray for Israel only. Many also pray
only for themselves. If the "intercession prayer" and "fasting" are done to reach a town or a
country, the success of God's conquest will no doubt be witnessed by us Christians.

2. Prayer for the powerful

In the prayer taught by the Lord Jesus, we can read this in Matthew 6:10, "May you reign over
us. May your will be done here on earth as it is in heaven.” God must also conquer those who
are powerful here on earth.

Paul also teaches that it is the duty of Christians to pray for those who are under the power of
God, even more political power. Because if those in government will be reached by the Lord and
theft from the government will disappear.

The Benefits of Our Approaching God

1. First, so that Christians can live a quiet, peaceful, godly and dignified life in the town
they live in.
2. Second, that all men may be saved.
3. The third goal is: so that all people can know the truth.

The neglect of the church in prayer is a great loss. Many Christians think that prayer is only
done when they have a personal need from God. Many people pray when they are sick or when
they have a problem. It is important to pray for God's widespread coverage of an entire town or
city.

If we really desire to expand Evangelization in our local community, start making regular
gatherings to pray.

1. Each local church will appoint a "prayer coordinator". Choose a prayerful person to lead the
daily prayers for the workers, and the church.

2. Form a prayer "warrior group" or intercessors who will pray for the barangay, or town where
the church is located.

3. Establish a prayer meeting for the whole church in conjunction with the establishment of Care
Group Ministries. Also designate a day of fasting (maybe Wednesday and Friday Lunch) as a
personal prayer time for church members.

4. Train church members in personal sharing of the Word of God (Personal Evangelism).

Sermon 9 Outline

MESSAGE : Principles of Prayer

We have learned in the past that those who are successful in prayer are those;

1. children of God - have a right relationship with God.

2. true truth seekers and godly seekers.

Principles of Prayer

1. Prayer with faith.

"Whatever you ask in prayer you will receive if you believe." - Matthew 21:22

"A fickle minded person who does not know what he really wants should not expect to receive
anything from the Lord." - James 1:8-9

Faith in God.

" If we do not believe in God, we cannot give him pleasure, because anyone who approaches
God must believe that there is a God who rewards those who believe in him." - Hebrews 11:6.
2. Prayer with Humility (Humility)

"He hates the proud, but he delights in the humble." - Proverbs 3:34

3. In Harmony with the Will of God (In Harmony with the Will of God)

"We do not hesitate to approach him because we know he will grant whatever we ask if it is in
accordance with his will." - 1 John 5:14

4. Prayer of Thanksgiving

"Rejoice always, pray always, and give thanks to God at all times; for this is God's will for you in
your union with Christ Jesus." - 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18.

5. Prayer in the Name of Jesus

”On that day, you will not have to ask me. Remember: whatever you ask the Father in my
name, he will give it to you. Until now you have not asked him for anything in my name. Ask,
and ye shall receive, that your joy may be full." - John 16:23
