Significance of the study

Laboratory literacy pays an important role in students learning (Forcino, 2013). In teaching
students about laboratory, it is stated that it increases and foster the knowledge of students in
learning more about their life and everything that surrounds us since it drives their curiosity
in craving more information about laboratories. Therefore, if they already learned about
laboratory then it can make their life and studies easier (Julius, 2017).
This study can be beneficial to the following:
Students: The population of this study focuses on the STEM students of Mati National
Comprehensive High School. It is significant on students in gathering more knowledge about
laboratory activities and apparatus which can help them participate and engage more in
laboratory exercises.
Teachers: This study is beneficial to teachers as they can adjust their teaching to student in
laboratory aspects while making their teaching easier and efficient. Moreover, the result that
the researchers will gain can serve as the basis on how the teacher can interact with their
learners in their future laboratory activities.
Head of school: This study is relevant for the head master and supervisor in terms of
performances of teachers and students that can lead to improvement and makes the
educational environment more sufficient.
Future researchers: This research offers a statistical details about the student literacy and
deals with its impact and relationships to the academic performances of Mati Comprehensive
High School students.

Definition of Terms
Laboratory – refers to a place where scientific activities are conducted accordingto the
Meriam dictionary. Moreover, according to Udo on 2010, laboratory is a primary vehicle in
promoting scientific knowledge and communication skills of learners.
Scientific Literacy – in this study, scientific literacy is described as a key competence and an
ability to use knowledge interactively. Thus, the person who has scientific literacy is more
likely has mindset that are able toto make decisions scientifically by using this to solve
broader problems (Tenriero, 2016).
Data gathering- this paper define the data gathering as a method on collecting or gathering
information or data from multiple sources to determine the results of research problems,
evaluate the outcomes and answer the given research questions (Simplilearn, 2023)
Analysis- refers to an interpretation needs to be done by researchers in a critical manner as it
needs thorough understanding in order to understand the information in the paper (Study
smarter, 2024.
Performance (academic)- refers to the evaluation and measurement of a learning level a
students have achieved. It can be influenced by a lots of factors such as social,
psychological, mental, institutional, and many more ( Rogaten, et al.. (2013)
