SEEKING DEDICATED BOARD MEMBERS
SOS Children’s Villages In Kenya invites applications
for board membership, aiming to enlist individuals
committed to guiding the organization towards
sustainable growth and impact. Committed to

security, we seek dynamic individuals to join our team.
About SOS Children’s Villages In Kenya:
Established in 1973, SOS Children’s Villages In
Kenya is a leading child-focused non-governmental
organization. Our mission is to provide care and
protection to children who have lost or are at risk
of losing parental care in Kenya. As a member of
the SOS Children’s Villages International federation,
operating in 138 countries and territories, we strive to
build families for children in need and support their
development within their communities.
Our initiatives align with the Sustainable Development
Goals (SDGs), including poverty reduction (SDG1),
enhancing access to quality education (SDG4),
promoting decent work and economic growth (SDG8),
reducing inequalities (SDG10), and fostering peace,
justice, and strong institutions (SDG16). Grounded
in local relevance and compliance with national and
international frameworks such as UN conventions and
local legislation, our programs address the care needs
of vulnerable children and tackle the root causes of
their vulnerabilities. We prioritize the best interests of
the child and the urgent needs of local communities.
Board Roles:
We seek board members with notable executive and
strategic leadership skills, corporate governance
expertise, and accomplishments in organizational
development, fundraising, communications, and
advocacy within non-profit, business, or philanthropic
sectors. Desired expertise includes:
- Safeguarding and child/youth programming,
emphasizing sustainable solutions that protect and
uphold the rights of children and young people.
- Fundraising, resource mobilization, and strategic
communication from diverse sources, including
private foundations, corporations, bilateral and
multilateral donors, and the public.
- Finance, audit, and risk management.
- Human resources administration and management.
- Legal expertise and advocacy in child rights policy,
including influencing and lobbying. Possession of
Chartered Director certification and membership
in the Institute of Directors' country chapter is
advantageous.
Duration and Commitment:
Board membership is for a renewable term of three years.
Members are expected to attend quarterly committee
and board meetings, ad-hoc meetings as necessary, and
organizational events. A commitment to attend at least
75% of meetings, the Annual General Meeting (AGM),
and an Annual Board Retreat is required.
Remuneration:
This voluntary role does not offer remuneration.
However, reasonable expenses incurred while fulfilling
board duties, including travel to meetings outside
Nairobi, will be reimbursed.

Applicants should clearly demonstrate how they meet
the specified requirements in their application letters.
Shortlisted candidates will be invited for interviews
during the second week of May 2024.
