 Hello, My name is Martin.

Let me take you through the

creation of Data Modeling by
Reverse Engineering.

Please follow the steps which I

do in my system.

 Naming Convention Steps :
Naming Convention has different steps involved.

To check how Naming Convention works,

- take a table and
- fill the Naming Standards.

Take a “table” to check how

Naming Convention works. Entity
Go to File, select New,
check logical/physical and
paste the entity.

 Naming Convention Steps :
Go to “Naming Standard” ,
right click, make it as Test1,
right click and go to Add glossary to the terms.

The glossary words can be manually

added or imported from CSV.

 CSV :
The normal CSV format comes as
Word, Abbreviation, Alternative
Abbreviation,

The abbreviation “x” is for Prime, modifier1 and 2, Class word,
•
The order P, M1, M2, C. We can add suffix, prefix, affix also.
Prefix – Prime – Modifier 1 – Modifier 2 – Class word – Suffix

 Logical Part :

Logical part is about naming the

attribute, where the sequence has
to be selected.

 Actions:
Here, what kind of naming options to be applied to the model have to be
specified. We implement the naming convention.

Go to Actions, select Model

Naming options.

In model naming options, fill the

fields with the proper case. Add
domain, attribute to column.

 Actions:
Now , after adding glossary, prefixes check whether everything has come as specified. Then,
convert it to physical which adds the prefix “T1”. Next step is to check whether the naming
convention is working correctly or not.

Go to Tools, select Standards,

go to check naming standard
compliance. Select Table,
Column, Domain, click start.

In order to check whether P, M1,

M2, C are positioned or not, go to
Tools, select Standards, go to
check naming standard
compliance, select word order
position.

 Dimensional Mode:

In order to get Dimensional mode

on the tool bar, go to File, select New,
select Logical/physical, click OK.

Then, go to Model, to Model

properties, select either Data
Warehousing or Normal table.
Select the Modelling feature, check
the fields: a). Is Dimensional b). Data
Movement.
Data movement is checked to map the
columns, table to their data source and
to capture it using data movement.

 Data Movement:
In order to create Data Movement,
go to Source, right click New, name it
as DS1, click on the Data movement
source, click on properties, fill the
fields.

 Data Movement:

There are two ways in data base:

a). If the source data base

information to be extracted from
any of the models, then go to Data
Movement, click import other, then
select database and click load, check
physical, then next, select the
model, connect it by mentioning the
password.

b). If new data base to be loaded, it

has to be created and use it as
source.

 Data Movement:
Now, click import, click arrows to
import and finish.

The imported data model acts as a

source for new data model.

 Data Model:
To add the information to each of the columns and check the data model from which
column to get the information in the source.

Click on any of the tables, right

click, go to column property, select
Data source, click Data source
selector.
Now, select the select and check
city, country.

 Creation of Report :
To share a report out of data model with the
business, click Tools, go to Pinned Reports,
then click logical physical combined dictionary.

Enter the parameter values.

 Creation of Report :

After entering the parameters, main

report gets displayed. Where we can get
the complete details.

If the report is correct, it

can be exported to desired
format.

To the report, diagrams can be added.

If the report is correct, it

can be exported to desired
format.

 Adding Diagram to the Report :

After entering the parameters, main

report gets displayed. Where we can
get the complete details.

 Query tool :
Query tool connects to the particular data base.

Fill the fields of Connect

window and close..

Connecting to Erwin Data Model.
The steps are:

Put a Query against the internal model
•
Fill the fields of Query
•
Execute

 Query tool :
Query tool is the simple mechanism to get the information. It gives information about the
column table in the CSV
•
Select the name of the entity and save it as CSV.
