Audience
This document is intended for persons commissioning Ethernet networks with the Parallel
Redundancy Protocol (PRP).
Note
The "IEC 62439-3" standard is still in development and is expected to be finalized in 2013.
Readme file
You should also read the information in the readme file that ships with the product.
NOTICE
Transfer rate
The "SOFTNET-IE RNA" product is suitable for a transfer rate T of 100 Mbps/second with
long packets. With short packets, the transfer rate is reduced by a factor corresponding to
how much shorter the packets are than 1500 bytes.
T = 100 Mbps * packet length / 1500 bytes
At higher transfer rates, the processor load of the PC can reach values at which the PC no
longer works efficiently.
Note
Redundancy mechanisms impair the performance of the system. You should therefore make
sure that there are adequate resources for the processor, memory and network. If the PC is
overloaded for a long time (more than 80% processor or memory load), this may result in
restrictions and functional disturbances.
Note
The quality of redundancy depends largely on the network adapters used. By updating the
adapter drivers, the response can be significantly changed.
Note
The current standard prescribes that any redundant packet that arrives with a delay greater
than 400 ms is treated as a new packet and not discarded.
Note
The Ethernet adapters used must not be used actively from the point in time when the virtual
adapter is configured; in other words, for example, not configured or integrated in other
software.
After creating the virtual adapter, this is the only one to be used. If you use the real adapters
assigned to the virtual adapter, this can lead to functional disturbances.
Note
Use of the virtual adapter in configured mode is not supported.
WARNING
SCALANCE X204RNA products
Note the warnings and security notices in the "SIMATIC NET Industrial Ethernet Switches
SCALANCE X204RNA / SCALANCE X204RNA EEC" operating instructions if you use
products of the SCALANCE X204RNA product line.
Note
When using SOFTNET-IE RNA, you can only use the CP 1612 A2 or gigabit Ethernet
network adapters that support long Ethernet frames as the communications adapter.
Note
Make sure that the maximum permitted cable lengths for the relevant devices are not
exceeded. You will find the permitted cable lengths in the Operating Instructions of the
relevant device.
Note
You will find further information about the SCALANCE X204RNA / SCALANCE X204RNA
EEC products in the "SIMATIC NET Industrial Ethernet Switches SCALANCE X204RNA /
SCALANCE X204RNA EEC" operating instructions.
Example of use
With the Parallel Redundancy Protocol (PRP), each node must transmit packets on two
independent, parallel networks (in the graphic LAN A and LAN B). These are two physically
separate networks with a bus (linear), star or ring topology. The PRP destination device must
also be connected to the two networks. This then receives each packet twice. The first
packet is forwarded to the application. The second received packet is then detected and
discarded if this reaction is configured. This achieves N-1 redundancy without
reconfiguration (= bumpless switchover).
The so-called DANs (double attached nodes) that use this method are connected to both
networks via two integrated device interfaces or via a SCALANCE X204RNA or a
SCALANCE X204RNA EEC. This means that the frame of the end device can be transferred
at the same time via both networks. If a transmission path is interrupted, the frame arrives at
its destination via the second path.
Generally, the two separate networks are known as LAN A and LAN B. Since the packets
created for the particular line have an ID, it is even possible to identify packets sent via the
wrong network.
Devices that are connected to only one network, such as switches are known as SANs
(single attached nodes). These devices require a unique IP address via both networks.
4.2 Installation
User experience
To install SIMATIC NET PC software products, you should have experience of installing
software under the Windows version you are using (Windows 7 or Windows Server 2008 R2
or Windows XP, see section "Technical data (Page 41)").
To configure the communications modules, you should have experience and knowledge of
the following:
● Structure of the plant involved.
● Configuration of the plant.
You should only undertake the installation and configuration described below if you have this
knowledge.
General information
Note
Screen savers
Using a screen saver during operation can cause system overload.
Some screen savers do not release parts of memory again. This leads to a continuous
reduction in usable memory.
Note
Virus scanners
The use of a virus scanner during runtime can impair or severely slow down communication.
Dynamic virus protection, in particular using gatekeeper mechanisms, is therefore not
advisable. This is especially the case when trace files of the communication are written at
the same time.
Note
If you want to use SNMP, the Windows SNMP service must be available prior to installation.
How to do this is explained in section "SNMP service (Page 27)".
2. Read and confirm the license conditions and continue the installation.
3. Click "Next".
Work through steps 2 to 8, see section "Procedure for installation with subsequent
configuration".
4. Select the components to be installed. If you want to use the SNMP Extension Agent and
have already installed the SNMP service, select the "SNMP Extension Agent" check box.
The SNMP Extension Agent allows communication using SNMP (Simple Network
Management Protocol). It is based on the Microsoft SNMP service and supports
community-based SNMP version 2 (SNMPv2c). The SNMP Extension Agent makes the
defined PRP MIB of the standard available (OID=.1.0.62439.3). The MIB
(IEC62439_110826.mib) is on the data medium (cd\sw\snmp\mibs) and contains
descriptions of the individual objects.
5. On completion of the driver installation, the user interface for setting up the virtual adapter
is displayed.
6. In the configuration dialog box that follows, make the settings for adapter selection, MAC
address selection and add a virtual adapter. You can configure up to 2 virtual adapters.
Note
Note that if you want to make changes in the configuration dialog box following
configuration, you must uninstall and then reinstall.
First work through steps 3 to 5, see section "Procedure for installation with subsequent
configuration" and restart your PC.
After the restart, start the configuration from the Start menu and work through steps 2 to 8,
see section "Procedure for installation with subsequent configuration".
Use in enterprises
Enterprises that install plants with large numbers of PCs generally want to use the same
installation everywhere. Automated installation provides this option. The settings are made
with a control file.
Sequence
Installation only requires a few user decisions that generally need to be taken at the end of
the installation.
Control file
The control file is structured like an INI file. As an ASCII file, it is also easy to read. The
control file is generated during a sample run; in exceptional situations, it can be corrected
manually.
Description
The control file has the name "Ra_Auto.ini" and has the following structure:
[General]
CreatedWith=
RaSetupVersion=
Setuplanguage=0
IdName = Name
IdCompany = Siemens AG
IdNumber = 0000000000

[General] area
General settings are made in the [General] area.
[Dialogs] area
Dialog windows are listed in the [Dialogs] area.
[PRODUCTCODE1] area
The product codes area contains the product code and the three following parameters.
Examples of product codes are: [LICENSEMANAGER], [ACROREAD] or [S7PCED].
Description
The control file is generated by the setup program automatically by making a trial installation.
Note
The recording must take place on a system that is similar to the one on which the automatic
setup will take place later. This will not work, for example, if a recording is created on a 64-bit
system and this is then used as the template on a 32-bit system.
cd \sw
setup.exe /record
The lines of the batch file example have the following significance:
Line Meaning
1 The program changes to the folder
2 The program starts the manual test installation and generates the control file "Ra_Auto.ini" with the "/record"
parameter. You are prompted to name the folder for storing the "Ra_Auto.ini" file at the start of the trial
installation.
All user actions in the dialogs are stored there.
The record action stops after the "component selection" and closes the program.
Note
The "Ra_Auto.ini" file can be transferred to another PC, for example using a USB stick.
The path for the "Ra_Auto.ini" file can be set with the following instruction:
\sw\setup.exe /silent=<DR>:\<required
folder>\Ra_Auto.ini
Note
With the silent setup, the configuration must then be performed manually since interaction is
necessary during the configuration.
Note
For more detailed information on the "Automation License Manager", refer to the online help
for the program.
Follow the steps below to transfer a license key of the basic type "Single":
Note
Before you take the actions listed below, the "Automation License Manager" must be started.
1. Select the data medium containing the required license key in the left-hand list
(navigation area).
2. In the right-hand list (object area), select the license key you want to transfer.
3. Click on the menu command "License Key" > "Transfer..." > "Transfer License Key"
dialog box.
4. Select the local drive of your PC to which you want to transfer the license key and confirm
with "OK".
Note
To release a license that is being used, the "SOFTNET-IE RNA Driver" entry must be
removed from the software list of the Control Panel.
Note
If the computer is connected to a network, the general network settings may prevent
installation of the SNMP services.
3. Select the "SNMP Service" option in the dialog box and confirm with "Next".
Reaction: A dialog with information appears.
4. Click the "Install" button.
Reaction: SNMP is installed.
5. Confirm completion of the installation with "Close".
Note
The SNMP service starts automatically whenever you restart the system.
Note
The SNMP service is started automatically after installation.
Note
The possibility of this being misused by unauthorized third parties cannot be excluded.
NOTICE
Adapt the network security settings and the access permissions of the SNMP agent to your
own security needs.
"Start" > "Control Panel" > "System and Security" > "Administration" > "Services" entry >
"Services" dialog, "SNMP Trap" entry > right-click on "Properties" > "Security" tab.
