INTRODUCTION
God has put this book into your hands for a reason. Your
prayer life is about to take a whole new level altogether.
There was a great change in the life of the Apostles of
Jesus after they received the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit is
still at work even today. This book has been designed to
help those who have not been baptized in the Holy Spirit
to receive Him and those who want to help others to
receive the Holy Spirit.

v
CHAPTER 1- QUESTIONS AND
ANSWERS

And these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall
they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues; (Mark
16:17)

I have been helping people to receive the Holy Spirit for

ten years now. I am asked so many questions about this
gift. I felt the need to compile this book that covers the
main questions that I have been asked through the years
and the responses that I would give.

1) WHO IS THE HOLY SPIRIT?

God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in
spirit and in truth (John 4:24)

The Holy Spirit is the third person of the Trinity. He is

God. Remember that we have:-

God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit

2) WHEN WAS HOLY SPIRIT BAPTISM PROMISED?

In the Old Testament only a select people who included

prophets and some priests, judges and kings would be

1
BAPTISM IN THE HOLY SPIRIT

given the Holy Spirit for the purpose of fulfilling their

specific assignments. However, God promised to give the
Holy Spirit to everyone (all flesh) through Prophet Joel
seven centuries before Christ came on earth

And afterward I will pour out My Spirit upon all flesh; and
your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, your old men
shall dream dreams, your young men shall see visions. Even
upon the menservants and upon the maidservants in those days
will I pour out My Spirit (Joel 2:28-29)

3) WHEN WAS THE PROMISE OF HOLY SPIRIT

BAPTISM FULFILLED?

And when the day of Pentecost was fully come, they were all
with one accord in one place. And suddenly there came a sound
from heaven as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled all the
house where they were sitting. And there appeared unto them
cloven tongues like as of fire, and it sat upon each of them. And
they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with
other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance (Acts 2:1-4)

God promised Baptism of the Holy Spirit through Prophet

Joel and he fulfilled it during the feast of Pentecost as
recorded in Acts 2. It is important to take note that
everything that God promises, He fulfills.

4) WHAT IS HOLY SPIRIT BAPTISM?

2
CHAPTER 1- QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS

Holy Spirit Baptism is to be filled with the Holy Spirit

which is followed by the evidence of speaking in other
tongues (See Acts 2:4, Acts 10:45-46, Acts 19:6)

5) WHY IS HOLY SPIRIT BAPTISM IMPORTANT?

Holy Spirit Baptism is important because it will make us

effective in every area of our lives, financially, spiritually,
physically, socially and mentally. You need the Holy Spirit
to be effective in serving God and doing His work

But you shall receive power (ability, efficiency, and might) when
the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you shall be My
witnesses in Jerusalem and all Judea and Samaria and to the
ends (the very bounds) of the earth (Acts 1:8 AMP)

6) IS A PERSON WHO IS NOT YET BAPTIZED IN

THE HOLY SPIRIT BORN AGAIN YET?

A person who has not been baptized in the Holy Spirit is

born again as long as he/she has received Christ as Lord
and savior

But to as many as did receive and welcome Him, He gave the

authority (power, privilege, right) to become the children of God,
that is, to those who believe in (adhere to, trust in, and rely on)
His name (John 1:12 AMP)

If you have confessed the Lordship of Jesus then you are a

child of God. Holy Spirit Baptism which is followed by

3
BAPTISM IN THE HOLY SPIRIT

speaking in other tongues is an added advantage to the

children of God.

7) WILL I GO TO HEAVEN IF I AM NOT BAPTIZED

IN THE HOLY SPIRIT?

All you need is to be a child of God for you to go to

heaven. Holy Spirit baptism is needed for you to be
effective here on earth but it does not stop you from going
to heaven (Read John 3:16).

8) DO I REALLY NEED HOLY SPIRIT BAPTISM?

However, I am telling you nothing but the truth when I say it is

profitable (good, expedient, advantageous) for you that I go
away. Because if I do not go away, the Comforter (Counselor,
Helper, Advocate, Intercessor, Strengthener, Standby) will not
come to you [into close fellowship with you]; but if I go away, I
will send Him to you [to be in close fellowship with you] (John
16:7 AMP)

Holy Spirit Baptism is needed because it will help you

become a stronger and more effective Christian. The
scripture above shows us 7 things that the Holy Spirit will
do for you, namely:

(a) He is your comforter

(b) He is your counselor

(c) He is your helper

4
CHAPTER 1- QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS

(d) He is your advocate

(e) He is your intercessor

(f) He is your strengthener

(g) He is your standby

You should not settle for average or less when God has
the best for you.

9) IS HOLY SPIRIT BAPTISM FOR EVERYONE?

And these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall
they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues; (Mark
16:17)

Are you a believer? If you are a believer then the Holy

Spirit is for you. Speaking in tongues is for you. Take note
of the two scriptures, Joel 2:28 and Acts 2:17. They all talk
about the Holy Spirit filling up all flesh. If you have flesh
then the promise of the Holy Spirit belongs to you

God has given us His Spirit and He wants every one of

His children to be baptized in the Holy Spirit. The Bible
says that the Spirit is going to be poured upon all flesh.
We are living in those days when God's Spirit is available
for everyone.

THE PATTERN OF THE NEW TESTAMENT CHURCH

5
BAPTISM IN THE HOLY SPIRIT

The Bible makes it clear from the book of Acts that it’s the
will of God for all His children to be baptized in the Holy
Spirit and Speak in tongues.

Below are some examples of where people were baptized

in the Holy Spirit in the scriptures. And the pattern shows
that every time people gathered to receive the Holy Spirit
everyone was filled and no one left out. This is a clear sign
that it’s the will of God for all His children to be baptized
in the Holy Spirit.

[Experience 1]

Read Acts 2:1-4

On the day of Pentecost the Holy Spirit came down and

everyone present was filled with the Holy Spirit and
spoke in tongues no one was left out.

[Experience 2]

Read Acts 8:14-17

After Philip's preaching in Samaria the Apostles of Jesus

came and laid hands on the believers and they were filled
with the Holy Spirit.

[Experience 3]

Read Acts 9:17

6
CHAPTER 1- QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS

Just after Saul's conversation Ananias came and prayed

for Saul to receive sight and the Holy Spirit. We see that
Saul (Paul) received the Holy Spirit because we later hear
him saying he speaks in tongues (1 Corinthians 14:18)

[Experience 4]

Read Acts 10:44-46

While Peter was preaching in Cornelius house the Holy

Spirit filled all those who were in his house and all of
them spoke in tongues and magnified God.

[Experience 5]

Read Acts 19:1-6

Here we see Paul praying for the believers at Ephesus to

receive the Holy Spirit and all of them received and spoke
in tongues.

10) IS SPEAKING IN TONGUES THE ONLY

INDICATION OF BEING FILLED WITH THE HOLY
SPIRIT?

Speaking in tongues is not the only indicator that someone

is baptized in the Holy Spirit. There are nine gifts of the
Spirit which are mentioned in 1 Corinthians 12:8-10. A
possession of any of these gifts is a sign that someone
received the Holy Spirit. However, according to Mark

7
BAPTISM IN THE HOLY SPIRIT

16:17 the gift of speaking in tongues is available for every

believer.

11) IS IT NECESSARY FOR ALL TONGUES SPOKEN

TO BE INTERPRETED?

It is not mandatory to always understand what you are

speaking in tongues as the Bible makes it clear that when
we are speaking in tongues we would not be speaking
with understanding but by our spirits.

“For if I pray in an unknown tongue, my spirit prayeth, but my

understanding is unfruitful” (1 Corinthians 14:14).

The gift of interpretation of tongues is important but not

every tongue spoken will need an interpretation. It is only
when God wants to convey a message to the church
through tongues that He gives someone the grace to
interpret tongues

12) I HAVE NOTICED THAT A PERSON SPEAKS THE

SAME TONGUE ALL THE TIME, SUCH THAT IT
IS KNOWN THAT IT IS THEIR TONGUE. DOES
THAT MEAN THEY WILL BE PRAYING OR
SPEAKING THE SAME THING ALL THE TIME?

Speaking in tongues is a language and like any other language

it grows by use. It is possible to hear a person repeating the
same thing in tongues but as the person exercises the gift and
spend time in prayer, the gift grows.
8
CHAPTER 1- QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS

13) CAN THE HOLY SPIRIT EVER LEAVE IF HE IS

NOT HAPPY IN HIS DWELLING PLACE? AND IF
HE LEAVES WILL HE EVER COME BACK?

Read 1 Corinthians 3:16; 1 Corinthians 6:19

If you are a child of God, the Holy Spirit dwells inside of

you. He doesn’t leave you. You can only grieve Him or
quench Him by choosing not to follow His leading. It is
only when you choose to denounce or walk away from
Christ that the Holy Spirit will leave you. As long as you
are a Christian, your mistakes will not make Him leave
you though it will not be a good thing for you to live in sin.
You need to allow the Holy Spirit to work in you and
through you.

14) CAN ONE CAST DEMONS BY SPEAKING IN

TONGUES

Tongues are for personal edification. Your faith is stirred

up through speaking in tongues (Jude 20) but when
casting out demons, use of the name of Jesus because
that’s all we need to cast out demons (Mark 16:17)

15) CAN A HABITUAL SIN DEPART THROUGH

SPEAKING IN TONGUES CONSISTENTLY?

9
BAPTISM IN THE HOLY SPIRIT

Speaking in tongues does not replace the need to

discipline our bodies. The apostle Paul encouraged
believers who were filled with the Holy Spirit to discipline
their bodies. The Holy Spirit is there to convict us but it is
our duty to say “no” to some of the things that our bodies
demand

Let not sin therefore reign in your mortal body, that ye should
obey it in the lusts thereof (Romans 6:12 KJV)

16) DO I NEED TO PAY ANYTHING OR BE IN

CHURCH FOR SOME YEARS TO BE FILLED WITH
THE HOLY SPIRIT?

Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of
you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye
shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost (Acts 2:38)

The Holy Spirit is a gift. He cannot be purchased by

money or any of our efforts. The Holy Spirit does not have
any monetary value. He is for free. It is only by the grace
of God that we were counted worthy to be partakers of the
promise of the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit is a gift given
to all believers for free.

No one is supposed to pay money to receive the Holy

Spirit, healing, deliverance or any miracle. Trying to sell or
buy the things of God doesn’t please God. We were given

10
CHAPTER 1- QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS

freely and freely we should give (Matthew 10:8). Simon

was rebuked by the apostles of Jesus because he tried to
buy the gift of God with money (Acts 8:18-20)

17) WHO BAPTIZES PEOPLE IN THE HOLY SPIRIT?

I indeed baptize you with water unto repentance: but he that

cometh after me is mightier than I, whose shoes I am not worthy
to bear: he shall baptize you with the Holy Ghost, and with fire
(Matthew 3:11)

Jesus himself is the one who baptizes people in the Holy

Spirit. God uses human vessels to reach out to his people
but the one who baptizes in the Holy Spirit is Jesus
himself.

When we see miracles, signs and wonders, healings and

deliverances happening in the church we need to give all
the glory to God because He is the one behind everything
and not anyone of us.

 We all have equal access to the Holy Spirit because

God is not a respecter of persons

 We have confidence that the promise of the Holy

Spirit is true because the one who promised and the
one who baptizes is faithful and cannot lie

 Because Jesus is the one who baptizes us in the

Holy Spirit, we should never give anyone the glory

11
BAPTISM IN THE HOLY SPIRIT

for what the Spirit of God would have done. All

glory belongs to God.

 A person can receive baptism of the Holy Spirit

anywhere as long as the person understands that
Jesus is everywhere and that He is capable of
baptizing us even without hands being laid on us.

18) IS IT POSSIBLE TO RECEIVE A WRONG SPIRIT

INSTEAD OF THE HOLY SPIRIT?

If a son shall ask bread of any of you that is a father, will he give
him a stone? or if he ask a fish, will he for a fish give him a
serpent? Or if he shall ask an egg, will he offer him a scorpion?
If ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your
children: how much more shall your heavenly Father give the
Holy Spirit to them that ask him? (Luke 11:11-13)

Some people have the fear that they might receive a wrong
spirit. The Bible is very clear that if we ask for the Holy
Spirit, God is faithful to give us the Holy Spirit. What we
need from God is what we get. We should not fear
demons because they are under us. The Holy Spirit has
been made available to us and no demon can stand the
presence of the living God. No one who goes to God to
receive the Holy Spirit will be given a demon. That is
impossible.

12
CHAPTER 1- QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS

19) WHAT ARE THE CONDITIONS FOR RECEIVING

THE HOLY SPIRIT?

Read Romans 10:9-10, John 1:12

Receiving Jesus Christ as your Lord and personal Saviour

and a strong desire for the Holy Spirit are the
requirements for receiving the Holy Spirit (John 7:37-39).

The Holy Spirit is a privilege for all children of God. When

you receive Jesus as your Saviour you become qualified to
receive baptism in the Holy Spirit. It is the will of God for
you to receive the Holy Spirit the same day you receive
Jesus as your Lord and Saviour.

20) WHO DO I ASK TO FILL ME WITH THE HOLY

SPIRIT? FATHER, SON OR THE HOLY SPIRIT?

But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father
will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all
things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you
(John 14:26)

But when the Comforter is come, whom I will send unto you
from the Father, even the Spirit of truth, which proceedeth from
the Father, he shall testify of me: (John 15:26)

You ask the Father to fill you with the Holy Spirit in the
name of Jesus

13
BAPTISM IN THE HOLY SPIRIT

21) WHY IS IT THAT PEOPLE DON’T UNDERSTAND

WHAT THEY ARE SPEAKING IN TONGUES?

Read 1 Corinthians 14:2

Tongues are not directed to man but to God. If they were

directed to people they would come in a language
understood by people. God understands all that we say in
tongues

22) IS SPEAKING IN TONGUES FOR TODAY?

For the promise is unto you, and to your children, and to all that
are afar off, even as many as the Lord our God shall call (Act
2:39)

God through his servant Apostle Peter made it clear that

baptism in the Holy Spirit and speaking in tongues is for
us and for our children's children and for all who God will
call.

23) I HAVE BEEN IN CHURCH FOR MANY YEARS

AND I DON’T SPEAK IN TONGUES. DOES THAT
MEAN I WILL NOT SPEAK IN TONGUES FOR
EVER?

Some believers do not speak in tongues because they were

never baptized in the Holy Spirit and others were baptized
in the Holy Spirit and may have briefly spoken in tongues
soon after receiving the Holy Spirit only to stop along the

14
CHAPTER 1- QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS

way or may not have spoken in tongues at all despite

being filled by the Holy Spirit.

Those who do not speak in tongues because they were

never baptized in the Holy Spirit

Desire the Holy Spirit with an expectation to speak in

tongues. If you have failed to receive the Holy Spirit
before after an attempt to do so, do not give up. This is
one of the reasons I wrote this book to assist people like
you. I hope that with more knowledge on Holy Spirit
baptism, many believers can be helped to readily receive
the Holy Spirit.

Those who once spoke in tongues after being baptized

in the Holy Spirit

The gifts of God are permanent. Speaking in tongues is a

gift available to all believers in this age. Examine why you
stopped speaking in tongues. Some stopped speaking in
tongues because of lack of a prayerful life. Speaking in
tongues is praying. Therefore, you cannot speak in
tongues when you do not pray. Some stop speaking in
tongues because they start questioning the tongues,
thinking that they could be making them up. If this is your
experience, you need to silence those thoughts with the
knowledge that we do not need to understand tongues in
order to speak in them. We pray in tongues by faith from
our spirits where the Holy Spirit dwells.
15
BAPTISM IN THE HOLY SPIRIT

Those who were baptized in the Holy Spirit but never

spoke in tongues

Speaking in tongues is not the act of receiving the Holy

Spirit but a result of that. The believers who received the
Holy Spirit on the day of Pentecost were first filled by the
Spirit and immediately spoke in tongues afterwards.

It is possible to receive the Holy Spirit and actually feel

Him filling one’s spirit yet fail to speak in tongues.
However, this experience is not justifiable as the gift of
speaking in tongues is for every saved person as clear in
all cases in the Bible where the believers were baptized in
the Holy Spirit.

A believer who is baptized in the Holy Spirit should

examine why he or she never spoke in tongues in the first
place. Some could not speak in tongues because they
restrained themselves from doing so in fear that they
could be making up the tongues or because they had
preconceived thoughts on how speaking in tongues
should happen that did not line up with their experience
on receiving the Spirit. If this is the case, the affected
believer should overcome these psychological or spiritual
barriers in order to speak in tongues.

If a believer could just not speak in tongues for a reason

unknown to him or her, that believer must continue
desiring to speak in tongues instead of thinking that he or
16
CHAPTER 1- QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS

she was never meant to speak in tongues. One day, such

believer will find himself or herself speaking in a new
unnaturally learned prayer language for that is God’s will
for all His children.

The next chapter looks in detail on reasons why some

believers do not speak in tongues.

24) I RECEIVED THE HOLY SPIRIT AND SPOKE IN

TONGUES BUT I CANNOT SPEAK IN TONGUES
ANYMORE

Speaking in tongues is a language and like any language it

is developed through use. The more you pray in tongues
the more you grow in the language. Once you receive the
gift, exercise it daily.

25) DOES GOD ANSWER MY PRAYERS THAT I

MAKE IN MY OWN LANGUAGE OR HE JUST
ANSWERS PRAYERS THAT ARE DIRECTED TO
HIM IN TONGUES?

What is it then? I will pray with the spirit, and I will pray with
the understanding also: I will sing with the spirit, and I will
sing with the understanding also (1 Corinthians 14:15)

God answers prayers made in your own language and He

also answers prayers made in tongues. If you haven't
spoken in tongues know that your prayers are answered
but if you speak in tongues that will be an added

17
BAPTISM IN THE HOLY SPIRIT

advantage because the Holy Spirit helps you to pray in

line with God’s will (Romans 8:27, 1 John 5:14)

26) DO YOU HAVE TO SPEAK IN TONGUES EVERY

TIME YOU PRAY?

I encourage you to pray in tongues as much as you can but

it is not a must for you to pray in tongues every time that
you go before God in prayer.

27) WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS OF SPEAKING IN

TONGUES?

There are many benefits of speaking in tongues which are

as follows

 Tongues bring edification (1 Corinthians 14:4)

 Tongues stimulates your faith (Jude 20)
 Tongues help you to pray for the unknown
(Romans 8:26)
 Praying in tongues helps you to pray according to
the will of God (Romans 8:27)
 Praying in tongues brings spiritual refreshment
(Isaiah 28:11-12)
 Praying in tongues reminds you of God’s
indwelling presence (1 Corinthians 3:16, 1
Corinthians 6:19). The Spirit of God is in you and
He gives you the language to speak.

18
CHAPTER 1- QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS

28) IS IT POSSIBLE TO RECEIVE THE HOLY SPIRIT

WITHOUT FALLING UNDER THE POWER OF
GOD?

It is possible to receive the Holy Spirit without falling

under the power of God. Acts 2:2 shows us that the
disciples of Jesus received Holy Spirit Baptism while
they were sitting. They were not standing and they
didn’t fall under the power of God. The Bible never
mentions falling down as part of Holy Spirit baptism.
People can fall down under the power of God during
Holy Spirit Baptism but that does not mean that
everyone should fall down in order to receive. You can
receive while standing, sitting, laying down or sleeping.
All you need is to open your heart and receive.

29) I USED TO CRITICIZE THOSE WHO SPEAK IN

TONGUES. I USED TO THINK THAT THEY WERE
ACTING IT. NOW I AM REALIZING THAT IT IS
SCRIPTURAL TO SPEAK IN TONGUES. CAN GOD
FILL ME WITH THE HOLY SPIRIT AFTER ALL
THE BAD THINGS I HAVE SAID ABOUT
SPEAKING IN TONGUES?

God forgives everything that you did out of ignorance

(Acts 17:30). Don’t allow what you did in the past to
hinder you from receiving the precious gift of the Holy
Spirit. Don’t listen to the lies of the devil. He will whisper
to you and tell you that you will never qualify because of
19
BAPTISM IN THE HOLY SPIRIT

all that you have been saying against the Holy Spirit. Now
that you have realized the need to speak in tongues, all
you need is to open your heart and receive. The same
gospel that Paul the apostle criticized is the same gospel
that he ended up preaching. I believe that God is not only
going to fill you with the Holy Spirit but He will also use
you to help many people see the need to receive Holy
Spirit Baptism. He will use you to help many people
receive the precious gift.

30) IF HOLY SPIRIT BAPTISM WAS SO IMPORTANT,

HOW COME JESUS NEVER SPOKE IN TONGUES
WHEN HE WAS HERE ON EARTH?

Jesus lived at a time when the gift of speaking in tongues

was not yet given. Also remember that Jesus lived in the
Old Testament. He only lived 40 days in the New
Testament (which means He lived on earth only 40 days
after He rose from the dead). The New Testament starts
when Jesus rose from the dead. The gift of speaking in
tongues was given on the day of Pentecost (See Acts 2:1-4).
The day of Pentecost came when Jesus had already
ascended to heaven. Jesus Himself stated that the gift of
tongues is for every believer (Mark 16:17). The only reason
why He didn’t speak in tongues is because the time that
had been prophesied by the prophet Joel had not arrived.

20
CHAPTER 2-HINDRANCES TO RECEIVING
THE GIFT OF TONGUES

1) Lack of knowledge

You cannot receive what you don't know (John 14:17).

That is why teaching is important.

 Knowledge that tongues are for everyone(Mark

16:17)

 Knowledge that you qualify(Mark 16:17)- Every

believer is qualified to receive

The Holy Spirit has never left us since the time He was
given on the day of Pentecost

 Knowledge that speaking in tongues is a gift- It is

for free, you don't pay for it or work for it

2) Lack of confidence

 Confidence to speak-You should not be ashamed to

speak in tongues. It is the will of God for you.

3) Complicating things

21
BAPTISM IN THE HOLY SPIRIT

Receiving the Holy Spirit and the gift of tongues is not a

complicated thing. It is very simple.

 You can receive the gift of tongues without anyone

laying hands on you. They received the gift of
tongues in the house of Cornelius without Peter
laying hands on them (Acts 10:44-46)

 You can receive the gift of tongues without falling

to the ground. They received the gift of speaking in
tongues in the upper room while they were seated
(Acts 2:1-4)

 You can receive the gift of tongues before water

baptism. The saints in the house of Cornelius
received the gift of tongues before water
baptism(Acts 10:47-48)

 You can receive the gift of tongues without fasting

for it because the Holy Spirit has already been
promised to every believer. You just need to receive
Him in faith.

 You can receive the gift of tongues the same day

you give your life to Christ

It is as simple as that, no need to complicate it or try to

confuse yourself because our God is not an author of
confusion (1 Corinthians 14:33).

22
CHAPTER 2-HINDRANCES TO RECEIVING THE GIFT OF TONGUES

4) Lack of cooperation

 The Holy Spirit does not force himself into anyone.

He works with your cooperation.

 He gives you a prayer language and it is your duty

to open your mouth and speak the language that
the Spirit gives(Acts 2:4)

5) Lack of concentration

Concentration is needed if you want to receive the gift of

tongues. You need to focus on Jesus to receive the gift of
the Holy Spirit. I faced this challenge when I got saved. I
would open my eyes and allow what was happening
around me to distract me. I usually encourage believers to
close their eyes during Holy Spirit baptism session; it
helps you to concentrate though a person can receive
when his/her eyes are open.

6) Lack of sense of value

You cannot receive the gift of tongues if you don't know

its value and importance

7) The fear of receiving something wrong

There is no way you can receive a wrong spirit when you

are in the presence of God (Luke 11:11-13). What you ask
from God is exactly what you receive from him.

23
BAPTISM IN THE HOLY SPIRIT

8) Looking to men

Jesus is the only one who baptizes in the Holy Spirit

(Matthew 3:11). Don't look at your pastor or leader for
baptism in the Spirit. Your pastor is just a vessel that God
will use. Laying on of hands is a point of contact only.
Jesus is the one who baptizes you.

9) Wrong teachings

You need to be careful what you listen to. Not every

teaching that you hear is scriptural. Below are some of the
unscriptural teachings that many people are being
deceived with:-

 Tongues are not for everyone-This is false because

the bible says those who believe will speak in
tongues.

If you are a believer then this gift is for you (Mark 16:17)

 Tongues were for bible times only-This is false

because the bible in Acts 2:39 makes it clear that
this gift is for everyone even us

 You can be filled with the Holy Spirit and not speak
in tongues-This is a false teaching because all those
who received the Holy Spirit in the Bible spoke in
tongues. God has not changed (Acts 2:4; Acts 10:44-
46; Acts 19:6)

24
CHAPTER 3- RECEIVE THE HOLY
SPIRIT NOW

The common way of believers receiving the Holy Spirit is

through other believers, especially servants of God in the
five-fold ministry of apostles, prophets, pastors,
evangelists and teachers. The records of Holy Spirit
baptism mentioned in Acts 8, 10 and 19 are a testimony of
this truth. The release of the Holy Spirit into another
believer is mainly done through the laying on of hands.
Other ways include a command with no laying on of
hands from another believer or a manifestation of the
Holy Spirit in a meeting.

However, a believer can also directly receive the Holy

Spirit for the requirement to be baptized in the Holy Spirit
is not in the method of receiving Him, but it depends on a
believer’s strong desire to receive this gift of God: “In the
last day, that great day of the feast, Jesus stood and cried, saying,
If any man thirst, let him come unto me, and drink. He that
believeth on me, as the scripture hath said, out of his belly shall
flow rivers of living water. (But this spake he of the Spirit, which
they that believe on him should receive: for the Holy Ghost was

25
BAPTISM IN THE HOLY SPIRIT

not yet given; because that Jesus was not yet glorified.)” (John
7:37-39).

You can use the steps below to receive the Holy Spirit in
your closet.

While there is need to be thirsty of the Holy Spirit in order

to receive Him, the recipient must first be born again. If
you have not been born again, please believe that Christ is
your Saviour and Lord and recite the following prayer
from your heart:

Father, I come to you and I acknowledge that I am a sinner and I

deserved to die. I believe that Jesus came on earth in flesh, He
died was buried and rose again. Jesus, I invite you to come into
my heart. I receive you as my Lord and personal savior. I receive
power over sin and evil spirits. I commit myself to serving you
and living a life of the word. Thank you Father for saving me
and writing my name in the book of life in Jesus name. Amen

After praying the above prayer, you don’t need to doubt

your salvation, you are saved and you are a child of God

Now that you are a child of God, this is what you need to
do now

1) Ask the father to fill you with His Spirit

2) Thank God for filling you with His Spirit

out, it’s the Spirit of God

4) You don’t need anyone to touch your head, God is

omnipresent and He is right there where you are

5) The Holy Spirit will give you a language and all you
need is to open your mouth and begin to flow in the
language that He gives you

6) Once you start speaking in tongues, keep speaking,

don’t stop.

CHAPTER 4- HELP SOMEONE TO
RECEIVE THE HOLY SPIRIT
And these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name …
they shall speak with new tongues; (Mark 16:17)

After a person has received Christ, there is need for Holy

Spirit baptism. Below are some of the guidelines to lead a
person into receiving the Holy Spirit which is followed by
an evidence of speaking in tongues.

1) Give a teaching on Holy Spirit baptism.

a) Encourage him/her that the Holy Spirit is for
everyone
b) Tell him/her that the Holy Spirit is a gift and it
is received for free
c) Tell him/her that Jesus is the one who baptizes
people in the Holy Spirit
d) Tell him/her the benefits of speaking in tongues
2) Tell him/her to expect to speak in tongues when
hands are laid on them but you should tell the
person that Holy Spirit baptism can still happen
without the laying on of hands
3) Tell him/her that he/she cannot receive a wrong
spirit in the presence of God
4) Lead him/her into the prayer of salvation in case
he/she is not yet saved.

BAPTISM IN THE HOLY SPIRIT

5) Lay hands on him/her in Jesus name and tell

him/her to speak out the language that the Holy
Spirit gives.

6) Tell him/her to speak in tongues even at home

because speaking in tongues is a language and it
grows by using it
