I have been tasked with designing a Classroom Block with two Science Classrooms as well as boys and girls bathroom with handicap friendly
fixtures/features. The reason I have been given such a task is to help improve the facilities of the primary school, that holds leadership camps for my high
school. In order to successfully meet the requirements of the scenario I will, come up with multiple plans that will hopefully please the client, as well as being
as cost effective as possible.
Mandatory specifications:
Maximum size of EACH classroom cannot exceed 85m2.
Female bathroom facilities must include ATLEAST 4 water closets, and 4 wash basins
Male bathroom facilities must include ATLEAST 2 water closets, 3 wall mounted urinals, and 4 wash basins.
I MUST include a Sceptic Tank or Grey Water system.
Jo-Jo other rainwater capture tanks.
Solar water geysers.
The two science classrooms MUST have a storage room that be accessed from both rooms.
The science classrooms must EACH have storage cupboards and a sink.

Septic tank VS Grey water system
A calcamite septic tank and a plastic septic tank as well as grey water recycling systems.
Compulsory Research:
Description: Description: Description: Grey water recycling system Description: Aqualoop Membrane
Septic Tank 1500L. Septic Tank 1750L. 125L station.

Calcamite RotoTank
Comparison: When comparing the septic tanks the Calcamite is tempting, however we are on a budget as well as the grey water systems.
2
Chosen Idea: I have chosen the plastic septic tank and consider using a grey water system as well.

Pro’s: Pro’s:
Cost savings. Saves space.
Low operating costs. Stability.
Environmental benefits. Ease of installation.
Con’s: Con’s:
Initial cost. Heat exposure.
Space Requirements. Weight distribution.
Weather Dependance. Potential corrosion.
3
Comparison: The APSP-15-HT is undoubtably useful with the space it saves, however it is quite expensive for our budget as the ASLP-12 is tempting with the low
operating cost and is in budget.
Chosen Idea:ASLP-12.
Pro’s: Pro’s:
Cost effective. Strength.
Lightweight. Fire Resistant.
Durability. Longevity.
Con’s: Con’s:
Potential Leaching. Cost.
Temperature Sensitivity. Weight
Environmental Impact. Maintenance Requirements.
Comparison: The Jo-Jo tank is cost effective and lightweight however has the potential for leaching which could lead to further implications, while the galvanized steel
tank has the ability to last long with the longevity, but what I fear is the cost of instillation and maintenance.
4
Chosen Idea: The Jo-Jo tank.
