I-794 HOAN BRIDGE COLLAPSE (2000)

1909
In 1909, plans for a faster route
between downtown and the south
shore of Milwaukee, Wisconsin
were considered..

1970

In 1970, the construction of a


memorial bridge in the name
of Daniel Hoan began

1972
in 1972, the bridge was still not complete,
but a great amount of controversy
sparked, as residents either pushed for
it's completion. or argued that it wasn't
needed.

1977
In 1977, the bridge was officially
open to generate traffic. However,
the roadways were not fully
connected, thus earning the
nickname The Bridge to Nowhere*

2000
Three of the Hoan Bridge support
beams nearly collapsed, leaving
one lane open on each side for
almost eight months

2001

Two lanes in each direction

The bridge is still


fully operational
to this day
