1. How a dandelion changes from a flower to a seed.

Dandelions are small flowers that grow close to the ground. A dandelion changes from a seed to
a flower like other plants. This change from a seed to a flower is called a life cycle. It starts as a
seed in the ground. When the seed gets enough water and sun, it grows into a small plant
called a seedling. The seedling keeps growing into a bigger plant. Once the plant is big enough,
it turns into a yellow flower that has seeds on it. The sun dries out the yellow flower and turns it
white. When the flower turns white, the seeds fall to the ground because of the wind. The seeds
then turn into flowers again in the same way.
Activity: Get a paper plate and clear tape. Go to the park and find a place where dandelions
grow. Pick out dandelions based on their size and color to see which stage between seed and
flower they are in. Tape the dandelions in the correct order on the plate.

2. Caterpillar to butterfly.
A butterfly is a small flying insect with colorful wings. Butterflies come from caterpillars, which are
small insects that cannot fly. The story starts with a caterpillar coming out of an egg to look for food.
It eats a lot of leaves and plants until it stops being hungry. Then, the caterpillar stops eating and
hangs upside down from a twig or leaf. It begins making a small house around itself, known as a
cocoon. It stays in that cocoon for a few weeks or until it is ready. The cocoon changes the caterpillar
into a butterfly. Once it is ready, the butterfly comes out of the cocoon and flies away.
Activity: Get multiple pieces of colorful paper. Cut out 6 large pieces in the shape of a triangle, and 3
smaller pieces in the shape of an oval. Decorate the large pieces with different colors and patterns.
The large pieces will be the butterfly wings. Decorate the smaller pieces too. Once the pieces are
ready, glue 2 large pieces to the sides of 1 oval piece to make a paper butterfly.

3. Tree and its roots.

A tree is a tall plant that is brown in color. It is made up of a trunk, branches, leaves, and roots. The
trunk is the largest part of the tree. The branches come out from the top and sides of the drunk. They
are smaller than the trunk and there are a lot of them. Leaves come out from all sides of the
branches and are green in color. Roots are the parts of the tree that are in the soil. They are bigger
than branches but smaller than the trunk. One tree has a lot of roots, and they are very important.
The roots take water and food from the soil and bring it to the trunk, branches, and leaves of the
tree. The roots also make sure that the tree stays in its place.
Activity: Find the nearest tree. Look at the trunk, branches, and leaves. Touch them to feel the
difference between them. See how the tree is connected to the soil through the roots.

4. Clouds.
Clouds are white shapes in the sky. The cloud is made of water that has moved through lakes,
rivers, oceans, and seas. This is because of the water cycle. The water cycle begins when the sun
heats up a body of water, like a river. When this happens, some of the water evaporates and turns
into a gas called vapor. The vapor from the river rises up into the sky and cools down back into
water. The water in the air is what we call a cloud. When the cloud gets too big, the water begins to
drop back down to the ground. This is what we call rain. The rain finds its way to a body of water
again, and the cycle repeats.
Activity: You can see water turning into gas when water boils and makes steam. You can see steam
turn into water when hot air touches a cold window and forms droplets.
5. Bees, Honeycomb and Honey.
Bees are small winged insects. They have a black and yellow coloring and can be heard buzzing
around flowers. Bees make a tasty treat called honey. They do this by finding a flower and using
their tongue to suck nectar out of it. The nectar is a sweet juice and is kept in the bees honey
stomach. When the bee fills up its stomach, it returns to its hive and gives it the nectar. A hive is a
group of bees that work together to make honey. The bees turn the nectar into honey by passing it
between each other. Once the honey is ready, they put it in a honeycomb. Honeycomb is a special
house that bees make to keep their honey safe. The bees fly around the honeycomb and cool down
the honey by flapping their wings. This makes the honey sweeter and thicker. The honey is now
ready to eat.
Activity: You can visit a beekeeping farm to see bees make honey. You can also visit a place with a
lot of flowers to see if any bees will stop by for nectar.

6. Starfish.
Starfish are star-shaped invertebrates that live near the sea. They are invertebrates and not fish
because they don’t have a backbone. There are 1,600 different types of starfish around the world,
and they can be found in many different places, like oceans, rocks by the sea, or shores. Starfish
have tough hard skin that helps them survive. The skin protects them from sharks, fish, and other
starfish. Some starfish can camouflage themselves. This means blending in with the things around
them to avoid being seen. Starfish can regrow their arms if they lose them, which is a very rare but
useful ability.
Activity: Visit the beach and walk along the shore, you might see a starfish! You can also collect
rocks, seashells, and twigs that catch your eye.
