BACKGROUND OF THE STUDY

Introduction

Online shopping is a novel activity that, in the short time it has been around, has had
a significant impact on customers' lives. With the development of technology, it is
anticipated to rise steadily in the years to come. Businesses have been forced to
adapt and evolve in order to access the new market of educated consumers as a
result of the internet purchasing behaviour that has taken them to a new level. The
practice or action of purchasing goods or services online is known as online
shopping, it entails using a computer to access a seller's website, choosing a product,
and setting up delivery. Lazada and Shoppe are currently the two most popular
online shopping websites worldwide. Shoppe is a free mobile application that
enables customers to shop. Shopee is the online platform with the most traffic and
popularity (The Map of E-Commerce in Malaysia, 2019). Shopee is in the lead since
they recognized trends that the rival does not things like natural cues, physical
traits, EWOM, and the significance of rating systems. Whereas Lazada is a Shopping
and Deals is an app that lets you buy and sell all sorts of products in Southeast Asian
countries such as Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, Taiwan and
Vietnam.

Online shopping has its advantages, but there are also risks and increases that
customers should be aware of. Both websites are engaged in a fierce e-commerce
competition and continue to provide fantastic specials and seller perks in an effort
to gain market dominance. The benefit of online shopping is that it saves customers
time because they don't have to wait in line to pay for their purchases at cash
registers. People do not need to spend time traveling because they can shop from
their home or place of employment. In order to entice customers to shop online,
merchants and marketers offer discounts to the public. Customers can also use
search engines to look for the products they need by entering relevant keywords.
Online retailers can provide products at appealing discounts because maintenance
and real estate costs are no longer an issue, purchasing online is convenient. The
internet simplifies and facilitates shopping for the consumer. Lastly, Ecommerce will
speed up interactions between buyers and sellers because it is simple to cancel a
transaction. Through instant messaging systems, sellers may communicate with
customers immediately.

Barriero (2020) asserts that in order to meet their needs, Filipinos were compelled
to engage in e-commerce activities like online buying and selling. As seen in the
essay, online sellers discover that they may meet their everyday necessities with the
money they make from selling online. Given that online shopping is convenient and
accessible, it is simpler to meet consumer requirements when there is an easier
option to exchange goods and services. The importance of online sales in meeting
the demands of both vendors and customers, as well as how practical it is given the
restrictions placed on it as a result of the COVID-19 epidemic. In relation to this,
more and more Filipinos are using internet shopping to meet their everyday
necessities (Xinhua, 2020). The ability to market to a global audience is one
advantage of internet retailing.

"A system and user interacting with each other through commands or techniques to
operate the system, input data, and use the constant," according to Heon-Sik, J.
(2015), is how user interface (UI) is defined. According to this description, the user
interface of a mobile shopping app communicates with both a system and a user. A
mobile application needs to be created and designed with user technological
aptitude, competencies, and linguistic proficiency in mind (Aliet at., 2014). An
excellent e-commerce interface will draw customers in and let them explore the
website longer, which will enhance user experience and eventually increase the
possibility that they will buy something. An e-commerce app interface's visual
appeal can depend on a variety of elements, including the graphics background,
color, icons, and images. According to Miniek J. (2018), a good design conveys care,
competency, and credibility, while a poor design inspires apprehension.
Furthermore, visual appeal quality was found in both the Huang (2016) and
Visinescu et al. (2015) research to be one of the many factors that boost the
likelihood of an online client making an impulse buy. However, Mcdowell et al.
(2010) found that web design elements only partially explain the variation in
conversion rates among clients. The vast majority of respondents, according to a
survey by Balderz and Campos (2020), "highly agreed"If the goods they received
matches the one they ordered, it indicates that the online store fits their
requirements and is trustworthy. Customers are frequently concerned with product
quality; therefore, online shopping reliability is one of the main aspects that may
have an impact on how satisfied customers are with their experiences. Consumer
happiness can be described as the way that businesses operate or as how shops are
known. Who meet customer expectations by satisfying their needs and wants
(Momtaz et al., 2011). Additionally, customer satisfaction includes the knowledge a
customer has acquired via the ongoing process of purchase, whereas lazada is a one-
stop shop for sellers worldwide to access customers in Southeast Asia.

The primary drawbacks of online shopping (on Lazada and Shopee) include delivery
delays, lengthy wait times, and improper invention management, which causes
shipment delays. The process of getting the product to the customer's door takes
one to three weeks. This aggravates the buyer and discourages them from doing any
online buying. Lack of physical contact with the goods when shopping online raises
questions about the offer's quality. Clothing cannot be purchased online since
shoppers cannot try them on. low price negotiations between customers and sellers
and a lack of interaction in online shopping. Customers receive individualized
attention from the sales representatives in the showroom as they assist them in
making purchases. The colour appearance in real life may differ from the computer
pictures of a product, which can be misleading.

Both websites have reliable shipping terms, which include the return policy. but i
cannot deny that the return policy on shoppe is simpler than Lazada. The former's
return process is simply fast, while the latter's return process is more complicated.
The issue with Shopee was discovered through observation of review sites where
Shopee consistently received very poor ratings and numerous unfavourable
remarks. According to the analysis, delivery, customer service, and disputes
between buyers and sellers are what Shopee users are most worried about. Clients
may believe that Shopee's regulations are insufficiently stringent to shield
customers from scams. There are many definitions for the term "customer service,"
such as a team that assists customers in resolving issues that arise prior to, during,
or after the purchase of goods or services. Their goal is to improve the customer
journey and make them satisfied. Making sure the right consumers receive the
product at their preferred time and location is part of providing excellent customer
service (Murphy & Kneneyer 2018, P. 34).

The goal of this study is to ascertain how effective Shopee is as a marketing tool
by students in Baco National High School. Other than that, the study shows the
relationship between customer happiness and online purchasing services, and other
researchers may find it useful to utilize this study as a reference. This study can aid
in a better understanding of the effects of Shopee online shopping on students in
Baco National High School satisfaction. Finally, the goal of this study is to draw
attention to the business faults and to help Shopee maintain its position as the most
reliable ecommerce platform in the Philippines, offer workable solutions for the
company's operational and service strategies.
