Ten exercises and 27 tunes in different styles—with accompaniment on the CD—provide an excellent basis. This consists of being able to play and read the fingering "Whole-whole-haif’ on the four strings and on combinations of two adjoining strings. In addition to this, elementary position changes are addressed, through the open strings or by sliding with a finge’, up and down the string. So that the student can con- centrale on reading and playing in the thiid posion, indications of dynamics have been left out almost ly. These can of course be added according to your own judgement. THE THIRD POSITIO! If you slide your left hand up and place the first finger where you place the third finger in the first position, you are playing in the thirc position. This way you can: @._ play even higher notes: b, play some notes on a differen! string than in the first position, so that you can produce a more beau- fiful sound: and ©. play some passages with more ease because you can play them on one string instead of two strings. Which would be the case in the first position. Place your fingers closely together with the hal step fingerings. The signs A and V diaw atiention fo half sieps.
