4 Reasons to Save Money for Teenagers

By Norashikin binti Samsudin

Have you ever thought about the amount of money you can save from drinking a cup of coffee at the Starbuck and
kopitiam? By comparing the prices of coffee at these two places, I’m sure saving this amount of money in the bank can
help us to avoid over-spending. Saving is a good habit and here are four reasons for us to save money.
Firstly, we can get more money when we set aside some pocket money to be saved in the bank. We can open a
saving account in the bank to deposit the money monthly and the bank will give us some interests for the money we
have saved. Just as the proverb goes ‘a penny saved is a penny earned’, so the more money we save, the more money
we earn.
Moreover, learning to save can give us important life skills to financial security. We learn to plan, manage, and
budget our expenses planning. Instead of buying branded and expensive things, we opt for cheaper things so that
we can save up for our future. Understanding the balance of income and expenses help us to pay bills on time and
avoid debts when we become adults later.
Besides, a good saving habit, along with budgeting, allows us to develop discipline, a skill we can apply to other
areas of our life. Having discipline in managing money could make it easier to distinguish between wants and needs.
Our wants often exceed our spending power, so learning to save encourages us to think about things like trade-
offs and opportunity costs, which could then lead to smarter spending choices. We could become better judges of
whether something is a good buy and learn to avoid impulse purchases.
As teenagers, we should better understand the value of money. Learning to save gives us a sense of satisfaction
and achievement. Let’s be smart with our money.

Every day trees are cut down around the world for various reasons. I think this is a bad thing considering the negative
impacts of deforestation.
First of all, many wildlife will be endangered because of the loss of habitat. This will cause many wild animals such as
elephants and tigers to enter the human living area. They are unable to find food in the diminishing forests.
In addition, deforestation also affects the environment. As the trees are destroyed, a lot of carbon dioxide is unable to
be removed and this increases global warming. Soils will erode and more coastal flooding will occur.
On the other hand, deforestation allows humans to create new infrastructures and for the development of the country.
More houses can be built for the growing population.
In conclusion, I think deforestation has a longer-term impact on the environment as well as humans’ lives. We need to
stop deforestation and protect the forests.

Child abuse is a serious problem in Malaysia. Reports indicate a worrisome increase in child abuse cases over the
years.
Some alarming examples of child abuse are neglect, physical violence like hitting and beating, and the horrifying act
of sexual assault. This can happen for many reasons. First is financial distress, which might lead to violence within families.
Moreover, mental health issues and substance abuse within households could result in abusive behaviours.
To prevent further child abuse cases in the future, we must take action. First and foremost, if we suspect any child
abuse, we must immediately report any suspicions to the police. Additionally, it’s important to raise awareness and educate
others about child abuse. Adults and children alike should know the signs of abuse and how to seek help.
In conclusion, we must work together to end child abuse and protect future generations. By taking proactive
measures, we can build a safer environment for our children.

Bilingual education
As the awareness of learning a second language is increasing, many education sectors especially the schools have
incorporated bilingual education. First of all, learning a second language benefits the students in the classroom. As well
as developing our native vocabulary, learning a second language can also foster our cultural awareness. Similarly, it is
believed to be an investment for the future.

Research shows that the ability to speak more than one language could be a bonus to secure a job. Individuals who
have the ability to speak more than one language are said to be well ahead of their competitors in the workplace. Plus,
there are certain career fields that depend on those who are multilingual, such as translators. In fact, there are even
required foreign language tests for those who are seeking career advancement opportunities in government fields. To
sum up, it is undeniable that learning the second language is very important for everyone.

Is it important to know a culture when learning a language?

Since young, we learned words, sentences, and sounds to deliver a message. Other than body language
and facial expressions, another element that plays effective communication is culture.
For instance , the Malaysians are very aware of the language used by the Royal family. The daily words like

‘eat’ and ‘sleep’ are different than the commoners use. Furthermore , the language used to speak with the Royal
Family are also different. It’s the Royal etiquette where the commoners will use the word ‘patik’ to talk to the Royal family
members while the Royals will use the word ‘Beta’. Knowing this culture will be helpful for us when we have to
attend a ceremony with the presence of the Royals.
Language is inseparable from culture. Language is said to be delivered efficiently when the learners understand
its culture. On the other hand , learners often find it challenging to learn a language when they do not know
the culture. They might misuse the language when they do not know its situation. Therefore , language teachers

should intertwine the teaching of language with its culture.

I strongly agree that married women should not quit their career in order to raise a family. Here are the reasons and
examples.
First of all, a career and a personal life should not be mixed. Women, who have completed their study at a college
or university will surely have a desire to build and expand their career. This is because, having their own career is a
guarantee in life. They will have their own income and get to buy anything they want. Once they are married, they
could support their husband in raising the family. Furthermore, today’s cost of living is very expensive. Hence, a married
woman with a career will be very helpful for a family.
Next, women with career can develop themselves better. Even though working can be stressful, there will always
be something new that they can learn at the working place. For instance, cooperation skill, communication skill and
leadership skill. Therefore, for me, we shouldn’t ignore the right of married women in pursuing their career as it will be
unfair for them.
To sum up, being married doesn’t put a stop on women’s career. Consequently, quitting a career after getting married
is not a wise decision. Indeed, marriage teaches women to be more skilful in managing their time and responsibilities for
both her career and family.

Personal Computer
Do you know that using a suitable device for learning is essential for a student? There are many types of devices
we can use and for me, I really like using a personal computer (PC) for my learning.
First and foremost, a personal computer offers larger storage compared to a laptop, tablet or mobile phone. If I
have a large storage, I can save any documents like projects, paperwork and assignments without worrying about the
limited space.
Not only that, a personal computer presents a bigger screen size which makes it very appropriate and applicable
to be used by a student. If the screen size is big, the view will be clearer and I will feel more satisfied and enjoy when
completing a task.
If you want to upgrade one part of your personal computer, it will be much easier compared to a laptop. This is due to
the size of the laptop which usually limited its space for memory and storage. In addition, upgrading a computer system
is necessary as it will add to the speed and storage.
Even though people now prefer to use laptops, tablets or mobile phones more, I still believe that personal
computer benefits me a lot!

Can you go a day without browsing through Instagram, X (formerly known as Twitter), or Facebook? To be honest,
I couldn’t. It has become a habit for me to browse through all social media platforms two or three times a day.

Among these platforms, X is my favorite. It serves as a source for breaking news and provides recent updates
locally and globally. It covers a wide range of topics, including politics, sports, favourite celebrities and health.

While Facebook may provide lengthy explanations of news, X offers a simpler and easier way to access
information. For busy individuals who can’t always watch the news on television, X allows them to stay updated with just
a simple headline.

Furthermore, X enables its users to follow individuals who share similar interests and thoughts. For instance,
if you’re interested in skincare tips, you can follow a skin specialist or a trusted seller of skincare products. This way, you
can gather valuable information about maintaining skin health.

For me, X has been a great companion. How about you?

Dear mayor,
I have just read in the local magazine that the illegal street racing has disturbed the residences of Taman Kurnia.
I think this is very disconcerting especially at night when everyone was sleeping.
The majority of these illegal street racers are young and engage in a variety of dangerous stunts without regard for
their own safety or the safety of other road users. Since these illegal street racers view street racing as a sport, the Youth
and Sports Ministry may develop solutions like providing appropriate place for them to ride their motorcycles.
Furthermore, the police should also do routine patrols at the area. On top of that, the government could educate
the parents as well as the teenagers on the dangers of illegal racing. This should be done to raise awareness to both
parties.
I look forward to seeing you put some ideas into action soon.
Yours faithfully,
Nancy

Paper 2

(Suggested Answer)
Hi Lenny,
Congratulations for your new restaurant! Well, I think you can share about your restaurant on the social media like
Instagram and TikTok. These social media platforms have become the best marketing strategy as they have a lot of users.
Why don’t you try traditional theme for your restaurant? I think it will be unique as your restaurant is located at the city – a
modern and sophisticated place for everyone. Moreover, you can add the Malay, Chinese and Indian traditional cuisine like
Apam Balik and Dim Sum for the significant dishes. Offering a variety of selections on the menu can make the customers
find a dish that they will enjoy.
Hope I’ve helped you. All the best!
Rossa

Part 2
The Positive Effects of Social Media
Malaysia is a well-known for its multi-racial country and developing regions. There are many destinations for a
vacation in Malaysia.
The best local destination to visit is Langkawi Island which is located in Kedah. Langkawi Island is home to a myriad
of picture-perfect beaches, including Datai Bay, Pantai Pasir Tengkorak, Pantai Kok, Tanjung Rhu, and Pantai Cenang.
Travel locally saves time and money. There are a lot of expenses involved in planning a trip abroad. For examples,
travel insurance, visas, and flight tickets. In addition, you may also know how much approximately meal in a restaurant
cost which makes you easy to set a budget. Travel locally allows us to support our country economy as well as the local
businesses.
Visiting local places should be encouraged by the government especially the Tourism Ministry. They can organise
campaigns by advertising the best places to visit, together with the activities they can do there. Besides that, we can share
the history and cultures of the country through social media like Facebook and Twitter.
To summarise, travel locally benefits everyone and it can completely change the way you see the world.

Gotong-royong at Taman Kurnia
A Gotong-royong program was held at Taman Kurnia on the 12th August, Saturday. All the residents joined the
program. We started the program at 8.30 a.m. and ended at 5.00 p.m. The organiser of the program was the Community
Head member, Mr. Khai.

The aim of the program was mainly to foster a good relation among the community. Generally, the program was also
held to clean the housing area as well as to develop the value of togetherness among the residents.
Mr Khai has distributed the tasks equally among us. The first activity was cleaning the playground. As the playground
is the main spot for everyone especially children, we had to ensure both its cleanliness and safety. We cleaned the clogged
drain to prevent dengue and the case is rising now. Another activity was planting trees around the area. It was aimed to
make our housing area more beautiful and greener. The teenagers were asked to cut the grass while the adults cleaned the
fishpond.
In the noon, we had our lunch and rested for a while before continuing with picking up all the rubbish on the road. It
was a very tiring day but this annual program was really meaningful for everyone.

Question 4
Animal Planet: Worth to watch!
Animal Planet is one of the best TV Programmes I always watch with my family. It’s on the Discovery Channel on will
be on air every Saturday at 8 p.m. It’s a great program to watch if you want to learn more about wild animals and their
habitats.
Interestingly, this program could expose the viewers about the discovery for all types of animals in the world that we
didn’t even know their existence! With the help of this channel, we are now familiar with creatures and birds that we were
previously unaware of. I have been to the zoo more than five times, but I’ve never actually seen any creatures in person like
I do on Animal Planet. We now know more information about animals, including what they eat, where they live, how they
reproduce, and many other things. We were aware that animals have emotions since they grieved for their families. We
were aware that animals also hunt their prey in packs. We could know how they struggle to protect their family, how they
hunt, and how they work to keep the children alive.
This channel is good for all members in a family to watch as it provides nonstop fun and extensive education. It
doesn’t have any violence or aggressive scenes which might distract the audience. Hence, I would really recommend this
channel to everyone.

Question 5
Matt flipped through the newspaper. When, he looked at page 12, he was astonished to see the headline of the news.
‘7.5 magnitude earthquake shakes San Fransisco”. He remembered Uncle Ken who went for a holiday with Aunt May and
their two daughters, Maisie and Mimi.
He continued reading the news and looks through the photos shared. 35 people were found dead and almost 13
people went missing. There was no news about Uncle Ken and his family. Matt went upstairs and told his father about the
news. His father was very shocked and quickly turned on the TV to watch the breaking news. The news at noon revealed
70 victims were found injured and 35 people were dead during the earthquake. All the victims were the residents of Hotel
Casa, the hotel which Uncle Ken booked – as he remembered.
Suddenly, Matt thought of calling the hotel. He browsed through the Internet and found the number. He quickly
dialled and after three trials, a lady picked up the call. Matt asked about the situation there. The lady said the condition was
very disastrous. The devastating incident has made people lost their family and properties. When Matt asked about Uncle
Ken, she said there was no resident named Ken registered at the hotel. He then tried calling his uncle’s mobile phone, but
it was to no avail.
That night, all the family members gathered at Matt’s house. They were waiting for the breaking news to know about
Uncle Ken’s condition. Suddenly, Matt’s phone rang. It was an unknown number. He picked up and was shocked to hear
Uncle Ken’s voice. Uncle told Matt that he was stranded at the airport as the flight to San Fransisco was delayed for almost
12 hours. He saw the news and they didn’t believe that! Only God knows how they felt!
