KONGONI SWOT ANALYSIS

2018
The SWOT analysis is an approach employed by businesses aimed at identifying the major
effects to the business both external and internal. For Kongoni, the analysis is necessary in
determining the key points of interest to the success of the loyalty program and ultimately, the
property.
SWOT (Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities and Threats).Strength and weaknesses are
internal factors that can be addressed by the business itself. Opportunities and threats are
external and thus control over them is limited. Starting off with the strengths. These are
attributes that make Kongoni Lodge a leader in its niche. For Kongoni they include:
STRENGTHS
1. Connection to Oloiden Camp site:
- Important for visitors to have an area where they can have activities as opposed to
being stuck to the same venue
2. Long distance from the lodge.
- This has been mentioned by many customers as ideal for the gataway feel.
3. Availability of sister hotels nearby.
- Can cater for many guests even with few rooms available.
4. Get favorable reviews from guests
- From Trip Advisor to Bookings.com, satisfied customers give adequate feedback that
can be used as ammunition for targeting more customers.
5. Restaurants and other social amenities rank high among reviewers.
6. Free wifi for customers.
WEAKNESSES
These are issues that the business faces but are within their reach to sort them out. These
include:
1. Lack of late night lounges.
- Some travelers adore late night life and would be very attracted by presence of late
night activities in the property.
2. Renovations.
- For a property in this standard, the amenities and resources need to be in a high end
state at all times thus to avoid a feeling of neglect by customers.
3. Staff training.
- Some clients complained of the manager snubbing them. This may ultimately lead to
loss of opportunities and failure to perform as required.
4. Ample communication.
- Many customers that come to the vicinity are shocked by the prospect of them
sharing a room with another stranger. It would be ideal for the clients to be
communicated on the rooms state prior to their visit.

- It would be ideal to provide customers with travel options once in the property. This
would go a long way to assisting clients with no vehicles but are within the vicinity.
6. Assisting the referred clients.
- For clients referred to Wileli House, the management should take it upon
themselves to ensure the customer is given transportation to the venue to appease
them.

1. Emergence of the middle class market.
2. Growth of the mellenial travelers.

4. Tracking of customer’s journey to facilitate targeted adverts.
Threats.
These constitutes issues that the business has no direct hand in dealing with them and have a
negative impact to the business. They Include:
1. Emergence of new competition.
- With the setting up of new lounges within the area, the market share is being cut
into and thus a more aggressive approach to customer acquisition is necessary.
2. Distance from the town.
- Though it is also a strength, to some of the visitors, the distance might not be
favorable especially for customers who need just a quick bite.
3. Increased attractions.
- Some properties within the area have specialized in curving their niche with a
particular activity. The Great Rift Valley Lounge is known for Golfing, Enashipai for
Spas. Kongoni can build on its connection to Oloiden to attract campers.
4. Similar offers for less.
- Some competitors result to giving similar offers but at a lesser amount. To counter,
exquisite service would help reduce price wars.
5. Using Online Booking Services to your advantage.
- Conversion of an online client to a loyal client would be the main goal in this field.
