#1: BUILD A
BRILLIANT CV
Don’t have a CV? No problem.

HEATHER‘S PROMPT

“Act as a CV copywriter.

Your job is to help me create a powerful CV. You’re going to

conduct an interview and ask me all of the questions you
need to help me create a strong CV. Your questions will
include the following:
- Explore job roles and industries I’d like to work in
- Skills I have that are relevant to these
roles
- My education history
- Relevant experience in previous roles with dates and
responsibilities

The CV will be perfectly designed to attract recruiters in the

right industries. Once you have completed your questions,
you’ll let me know.
You’ll then provide me with two things:

(a) Draft copy for the CV

(b) Design notes and advice”

#1: BUILD A BRILLIANT CV
(CONT.)

JOHN’S ADVICE

Like anything created using ChatGPT, simply inputting

prompts and blindly sending on something that you've not
created yourself leaves you running the risk of getting
caught out.

I'll concede, albeit reluctantly, to ChatGPT being able to

create a strong framework for you to build on (with quality
prompts) but your CV needs your grubby little finger prints
on it to come across as authentic.

Side note on Canva templates...

Unless you're applying for jobs in creative industries, keep it

simple. Colours, pictures and scoring your skills out of 5 with
those neat little graphics are all MASSIVELY off putting.

-4-
#2: USE CHATGPT AS
A CAREER COACH

HEATHER‘S PROMPT

“Act as a career coach. Here is my CV. Please pay particular

attention to my experience and my skill set. Please suggest
ideas for the types of jobs I should be going for and for each
one, explain why.”

[Paste your CV].

JOHN’S ADVICE

This is a fantastic way to come up with inspiration when it

comes to suitable jobs you should be considering. It's also
particularly useful if you want to see how your current skills
might transfer into another role.
Obviously downing your trowel and picking up a paint brush
because ChatGPT says you'd make a great portrait painter
isn't a great plan of action but it may just get the creative
juices flowing.
I see very little in the way of credible career guidance out
there, and this could work especially well for people earlier
on in their careers.

#3: WRITE KILLER
COVER LETTERS
HEATHER‘S PROMPT

“Act as a copywriter. Your task is to create a

powerful cover letter for a job. I’ll give you my
CV for background on me, and the job advert
for information on the job itself. JOHN’S ADVICE
The cover letter should be written in a
professional, butIn mywarm andopinion,
honest engaging tone.

should be a maximum of 300 words, and be
split into easilyUnless requested
digestible to submit one, your time
sections.
would be best spent on optimising your
LinkedIn profile, practising your interview skills
or...literally anything else.
It may be useful to create engaging outreach
with the purpose of reaching out to a recruiter
directly both pre and post application but the
prompts would have to change as I advise
keeping those types of messages short,
engaging and to the point.
Again, tailoring ChatGPT responses is key as
most experienced recruiters will be able to
spot an AI generated message from a mile off.

#4: PREPARE
FOR INTERVIEW

HEATHER‘S PROMPT

“Act as a [job title interviewing you] at a [company type] in

[location]. You’re interviewing for the role of [job role], and I am
your candidate.
Please explain the following:
(a) What you’ll be looking for in a candidate
(b) The questions you’re likely to ask
(c) What strong answers to those questions would sound like
(d) How I can best prepare for this interview: topics to research,
areas to practise
To help, I’m pasting the [job advert and/or job description] here
for you to analyse:
[Insert job ad]
[Insert job description]
Here is my CV for context:”
[Paste CV]

JOHN’S ADVICE

With any response from ChatGPT, you have to trust that the
information it's giving you is accurate.
But, I really like how AI can be utilised in this way. It's the
difference between creating something on your behalf and
giving you the tools to do something for yourself.

-7-
#5: REHEARSE
THE INTERVIEW

HEATHER‘S PROMPT

Bonus: Use the ChatGPT Mic feature

to be able to freely speak your answers

“We are going to role play as interviewer and interviewee.

The job: [Job title]
The description: [Job ad/job description]
The candidate: [Your CV]
Please ask me interview questions, and I’m going to respond.
The interview should last around 40 minutes.
At the end of the interview, I’d like you to critically analyse my
responses, giving me a report on my strengths and
weaknesses. Then give me constructive actions to better
improve my responses.”

JOHN’S ADVICE

Again, you have to trust that the way ChatGPT is scoring your
responses is an accurate representation of how a human might
rate your response.
Although there's nothing that can quite compare you for the
nerves on the day, with the 6 P's in mind I think this is a great use
of people's time.
Another great resource for people to use is Pramp. With any
response from ChatGPT, you have to trust that the information
it's giving you is accurate. and it's FREE.

-8-
#6: WRITE A THANK
YOU LETTER
JOHN’S ADVICE

Thank you letters post interview do a great job of making

you stand out. Rely solely on ChatGPT to write a thank you
letter and you risk standing out for all the wrong reasons.

HEATHER‘S PROMPT

“Act as a copywriter. I’ve just completed a job interview and

would like to write a positive, professional and polite thank you
letter to my interviewer. The letter should be no more than 200
words and convey my gratitude at the opportunity, and how
I’m looking forward to hearing the outcome.
For context:
Name of interviewer: [insert first name]
Job role: [insert job role]
Job advert: [insert job ad]”

JOHN’S ADVICE

If you're struggling with where to start, Heather's prompts

could provide some much needed structure. My advice is
that less is most definitely more. Getting the tone right here
is integral. Show intent without seeming desperate.

-9-
OVERALL SUMUP

HEATHER‘S ADVICE

Remember these are drafts, not final versions.

Be very careful: anything you upload isn’t private.
The more info you give in the prompt, the more
unique the result.

JOHN’S ADVICE

If you're going to use ChatGPT to generate a CV, cover

letter (WHY?) or thank you letter then don't rely on the
response without getting your hands all over it.
Using ChatGPT as a career and interview coach is a far
better use of your time then asking it to generate
outreach and documents in your name.
If you're serious about using ChatGPT to create
something that is close to being authentically you then
you need to ensure the quality of your prompts is, for
want of a better phrase, shit hot. Funnily enough,
I know someone that can help with that.
