First invasion – Caesar’s first raid


- In August 55. B.C,The Romans with Julius Caesar overcame a Britons resistance and the
Britons asked for peace and accepted Caesar’s term, he returned to France

- In 54 B.C Caesar returned because the British and violated the terms of their agreement
with him. The Romans again defeated British tribes
The third and final invasion
- Nearly 1oo years later, in 43 A.D ( during the time of Emperor Clausius) The Romans
invaded Britain.
- Many of the Celtic tribes surrendered and made peace with the Romans
- - But the tribe Catevellauni fought and were defeated in battle at the River Medway
Londinium, also known as Roman London, was the capital of Roman Britain during most of the
period of Roman rule.
The Romans gave :
- Language: The languge we úed today was developed from the Romans. The Romans
spoke and wrote in Latin and many of the words are based on Latin words
- The calendar: started by Julius Caesar, a Roman ruler. It is Based on the movement of
the earth aroud the sun, and so is called the “solar calendar”. The name of our month
are taken from the names of Rman gods and rulers. The month July, in fact, is named
after Julius Caesar himself.
- Law and legal system: A law came originally from the Roman Empire
- The census: The Roman Empire was huge and included mollions of people living over a
large area. How did they keep track of all these people? Easy! The counted them. They
began the practice of taking a census or a ‘count’ of all the people within its boundaries
every so often. so today, many countries take a census every 10 years
- Straight roads
- Central heating
- Concrete
- Aqueducts ( bridges for water)
Roman baths
Every tow had its own bath compex ( like a large swimming pool). The Romans built magnificent
public bath houses in towns across their empire. People went to the public baths for
entertainment, healing or just to get clean, meet friends….large baths houses had restaurants
games rooms snacks bars andd even libraries.
Hadrian’s Wall
Was a stone barrier built to separate the Romans and the pIcts tribes in Scotland. It allowed
Roman soldiers to control the movements of people coming into or leaving Roman Britain.
It was 117km long across the narrow heck of Enland, from the North Sea to the Irish Sea
Took about 14 years to complete. The largest structure ever made by the Romans
