Module Title: Caring for Network and Computer Hardware
LO_1: Identify computer hardware components
Session Objectives: At the end of this session the learners shall be able to :-
 Identify External hardware components and peripherals based
 Identify Internal hardware components as needed
 Review, record and apply requirements specified by
Hardware manufacturers where appropriate.
 Determine and record quality standards of hardware
Components and associated peripherals.
 Determine and establish relationship of computer hardware
and software for proper functioning of the system
 Determine, record and apply Safe work practices, taking into
account legal and manufacturer requirements

LO_3: Monitor threats to the network
Session Objectives: At the end of each session the trainees would be able to:-
 Use third-party software or utilities to evaluate and
report on system security
 Review logs and audit reports to identify security
threats
 Carry-out spot checks and other security strategies
to ensure that procedures are being followed
 Investigate and implement inbuilt or additional en-
cryption facilities
 Prepare and present an audit report and recommen-
dations to appropriate person
 Obtain approval for recommended changes to be
made

LO_4: Establish maintenance practices
Session Objectives: At the end of this session the learners shall be able to :-
 Determine maintenance requirements specified by the
Equipment manufacturer.
 Produce maintenance schedules including removal of dust
and grease build –up.
 Perform diagnostic functions including replacing suspect
Components with other serviceable components and reload-
ing of associated software.
 Configure software security settings to prevent destructive
software from infecting the computer.
 Determine unserviceable components whether replaceable
through warranty, replacement or upgrade
 Perform diagnostic functions using the operating system
and third-party diagnostic tools for recommended changes
to be made..
