Title: The Effectiveness of Mindfulness-Based Interventions for Anxiety Disorders: A Systematic Review

and Meta-Analysis

Abstract:

This systematic review and meta-analysis aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of mindfulness-based
interventions (MBIs) for anxiety disorders. A comprehensive literature search identified 30 randomized
controlled trials (RCTs) meeting inclusion criteria, comprising a total of 4,000 participants diagnosed with
various anxiety disorders (e.g., generalized anxiety disorder, social anxiety disorder, panic disorder).
Effect sizes were calculated for anxiety symptom severity pre- and post-intervention, comparing MBIs to
control conditions (e.g., waitlist, active treatments). Results revealed a significant overall effect favoring
MBIs (Hedges' g = -0.58, 95% CI [-0.70, -0.46], p < 0.001), indicating a moderate reduction in anxiety
symptoms following MBIs. Subgroup analyses explored potential moderators such as intervention
format, duration, and participant characteristics. Findings suggest that MBIs may be effective adjunctive
treatments for anxiety disorders, with implications for clinical practice and future research.
