What is the reason for this? Is it a positive or negative development? Modal answer In this current era people splash out money in their wedding ceremonies as compared to the past. Desire to show off and social pressure are the prime reasons behind this trend. I believe, it is a non favourable progress as it makes people get into debts, affects their savings and put pressure on those who can’t afford to have such lavish arrangements. With the growth in human civilisation longing to match steps with the contemporary trends rises. Weddings are special occasions in most cultures around the world and individuals put a lot of money to make it grand. This propensity gets the strength as everyone wants to flaunt and these events provides them the opportunity to improve their social presence and status. Moreover, from wearing costly attires to multiple national and international cuisines the host don’t wish to compromise on any aspect which might let them down to anyone in the circle, eventually leading marriages to become big splendid affairs. Nonetheless wish to enhance image through wedding processions in the local communities’ leads to several negative outcomes. To compete with the affluent and sometimes public figures needless expenses are made such as; inviting celebrity guest, destination weddings, pre and post wedding shoots and additional rituals, which takes a heavy toll on people’s finance resulting in need of loans and reduction in their saved funds. Furthermore, these proclivities coerce others to follow who don’t even have monetary capacity for meeting such expenses. To conclude, due to urge to impress others and social obligations people splurge huge sum of their money in modern day sumptuous weddings. In my opinion, it is a negative development as it gets people debt ridden, creates coercion on people who are economically feeble. (286 words)
