PRACTICAL – Analysis of ionic compounds

letter shown. Each bottle should be on a mat and
 several test tubes

 P = potassium iodide
 deionised water bottle
 Q = sodium carbonate
 test tube bung  R = iron(II) sulfate
 test tube bung with delivery tube (U-type shape)  S = lihtium chloride
to go from one test tube to another sat alongside  T = calcium bromide
it in a test tube rack
 U = aluminium sulfate

Several bottles of each of the following (possible one


per bench or similar set up)
 2.0 mol dm hydrochloric acid

 2.0 mol dm nitric acid

 0.05 mol dm silver nitrate (aq)

 0.1 mol dm barium chloride (aq)

 0.4 mol dm sodium hydroxide (aq)

Notes  It does not matter if the ionic compound are hydrated or anhydrous (although hydrated are usually cheaper
to use if you have both)

You need to carry out a risk assessment before doing this practical
