ISO Standards have now been pub- lisned for the most important types of feateners (vee ISO Standards Handbook 18). However, international etforts only serve auseful purpose it ‘national standards are adapted as far es possible to inter- national standards, or, ideally, replaced by them. Since experience has shown, that the introduction of the new widths across flats has hat been advanced by their inclusion In DIN Standaras merely as preferred alternatives to the pravious widths acrase fats. the folowing decisions havebeon reachedto accelerate the changeover procedure Supplementary to current DIN Standarde specifying the Drevious wicths across fats, DIN ISO Standards dealing with the same products wil, wherever ISO Standards are International Patent Classification F168 35/00 Fug 16 2001 10:42 P.09/09 DIN 933 Page avalable, be published whieh, besides introducing @ nur ‘ber of other minor amendments, will specify the new width ‘cross flats conforming to 1S0 272. in both DIN and DIN: Standards attention will be drawn to the fact that tm felevant ISO Standards are to be preterred and that t! DIN Standard i tobe replaced ater a transition period 5 years. tno relevant ISO Standard is availabe, the DIN Standard will contain a foreword stating that the previous wisth across fats specifications are to be withdrawn after atcant sition period of § years and replaced by those specified in 180 272 ‘This sets a time tit for both manufacturer and user of hexagon products by which the changeover to the new ‘widths across flats must be effected. The responsible com inittes is of the opinion, that it wil stil be possible after this Period to obtain fasteners complying with the superseded ‘specifications as spare parts, Im some cases, the replacement of the previous DIN Stand. ards by the relevant ISO Standards will have further con- Sequences, besides the changeover to the new wiaths ‘2¢7088 fats, attention being drawn to this circumstance in the national foreword of ihe relevant QIN ISO Standards. These consequences result from the fact that the ISO Standards have not yet resched the same level of com: pletensss as the DIN Standards, Thus @ number of nominal sizes, a3 well as severalproduct specifications for fine oltch threads are not found inthe !SO product standards. Further” ‘more, ISO Standards on technical delivery conditions ave stil in the initial stages, so that specific requirements are stil subject to separate agreement when ordering pra cts in accordance with ISO Standard, as they are roti ‘cluded in the designation for arder purposes, Besides these consequences, which are of importanc when applying the new ISO Standards, the amendment of the widths across fats also have a number of conse. quences as regards the use of the new products which the designer must take into consideration, Besides the amend. fed assembly sizes, this applies above all to the cifferent surtace pressure for the bearing atea of the nut or the heads of the bolts.
