 Chastity is not just “covering our eyes” or
“looking away”
 Simply looking away is what we call
“negative chastity”
 Forwe can not forever ignore the things or
person around us which or who we want to
avoid so as not to fall into sin.
 True chastity (positive chastity) requires
the transformation of the heart.
 True chastity is when we came to the
point we can look straight at a thing or
person and not be easily swayed nor
distructed by what we see nor be inslaved
by it.
 Chastity comes from the Latin “castigare”
meaning to castigate or to tame.
 We need to tame all our thoughts, words, and
actions.
 In St. Paul’s letter the Galatians to cultivate
true freedom
 True freedom expressed indeeds conforming
to the Spirit, in self-giving and love.
 He admonished the Galatians not to be
enslaved by the “flesh” but to know how to
control or tame themselves ;if not they will be
in mutual distruction.
 Process or growth, we will encounter different
opposition which we can overcome by our
exercise of self-control and with the help of
the Spirit.
 We can recognize our real condition and put
our trust not in the flesh but in the Spirit.
 Chastity is not about loving less but it is about
loving more.
 It embraces not only our areas of sex,but all
areas of out life.
 Itis exerting our efforts to live chastely, by
seeking to Gos will in our preayer, by
disciplining our feelings and imaginations, and
by shanning empire thoughts when they come
our way.
 In our sex-saturated and materialistic
society, chastity is a hard-earned virtue.
 It requires lots of self-control.
 With God on our side, the battle to remain
chase is not our own battle alone, for the
virtue of chastity is also a gift of the Holy
Spirit.
