This publication is the Service Instructions for the models C75 and C85 engines. Manufae- tured by Continental Motors Corporation, Muske- gon, Michigan. 2. In this publication the following definitions will be used (a) The propeller end of the engine will be referred to as the “Front” of the engine, and the anti-propeller end will be referred to as the“Rear.”” The terms “Right” and “Left” are referred to as viewing the engine from the rear looking in the direction the propeller shaft points. (b) Direction of rotation of the crankshaft is clockwise when looking from the rear toward the front of the engine, Cylinders are numbered as follows: Cylinder No. 1— Right, rear side of crankease Cylinder No. 2— Left, rear side of crankease Cylinder No. 3— Right, front side of crankcase Cylinder No. 4— Left, front side of crankease During the various stages of instructions in this publication, references will be made to the use of certain tools. ‘Two well known concerns have made up complete sets of tools for use on Continental Aireraft Engines. The Kent-Moore Organization, Inc., 485 W. Milwaukee, Detroit 2, Michigan, through close cooperation and mutual assistance have designed and built appropriate tools necessary for a major overhaul, such as a revolving engine stand, eylin- der and valve holding fixtures, special reamers, ete. ‘The Snap-On Tools Corporation of Kenosha, Wisconsin, have made up a complete kit of tools for use on Continental Aireraft Engines, such as wrenches of all sizes and shapes, and it is our hope that all shops, regardless of their approval, doing Continental engine maintenance work will arrange to have these tools available to their mechanics. Continental Authorized or Approved Serv- ice Stations will be required to have these or equivalent tools in their shops.
