Solar PV Training & Research System Experiment No. 1 Objective: To demonstrate the I-V and P-V characteristics of PV module with varying radiation and temparature level. Calculate Fill Factor for the given module. Theory: PV module is characterized by its LV and P-V characteristics. typical IV & PV characteristics curves of PV module at a particular solar insolation and temparature are shown in fig. 2000 Current (A) ga 3 0000 0 005 0.1 015 02 025 03 035 04 045 05 055 35 Voltage (V) Fig. 1.1a) I-V characteristic of PV module ° 00) 1 015 02 025 03 038 o4 o4s 05 O58 Voltage (V) In LV characteristics maximum current at zero voltage is the short circuit current (Ise) which can be measured by shorting the PV module and maximum voltage at Zero current is the open circuit voltage (Va). In P-V curve the maximum Power is achieved only at a single point which is called MMP (Maximum Power Point) and the voltage and current corresponding to this point are referred as Vmp and Imp. on increasing the temperature, Vse of module decreases while I,. remains the same which in turn reduces the power. Readings for one set should be taken within 1-2 minutes (for indoor exp.) otherwise temperature of the module can be changed as radiation source is halogen lamp. 2. Halogen lamp position should not be changed during the one set otherwise radiation on modules can be changed. 3. Connections should be tight. Conclusion:
