8 Acquisition of Shim Characteristic Matrix

Measure the characteristic matrix necessary for volume shimming.

(1) Set the phantom No.11 at the center of magnetic field using Phantom fixed base.

(2) Open Shim Characteristic Matrix Adjustment from Service Tool & Diagnostic -> System
Adjustment (Fig.2.8-1). The following operation screen (Fig.2.8-3) appears.

Fig.2.8-1 Shim Characteristic Matrix Adjustment is in System Adjustment group

(3) Select “Coil Setting” from Tool menu.

(4) The Coil Setting tool appears, and change Receiver Coil to "TR Body".

(5) Check AX , SAG , COR plane in the Scan area and click Start button. On this
measurement, the scan time is about 33 minutes.

(6) Images are acquired for all channel of shim coil and all planes. The following 6 types of images
are acquired 25 frames each.

(7) For example, the characteristic images on AX plane are shown below. (Note that these
characteristic images are typical ones and there may be small difference in each system.)

(8) When completing acquisition for all planes, click Apply button and close the tool.

NOTE : Shim characteristic matrix needs to be acquired when system installation and image
quality trouble improvement. At system installation, shim matrix must be acquired for
all plane (AX, SAG, COR). Though at trouble improvement, if the image quality fails
at specific plane, reacquisition needs to be done only for that plane.
