MOVEMENTS OF THE DEMAND CURVE

There is just one factor (change in price)that can cause movements along the
curve of demand. On the other hand, there are severak factors that can cause
movements of the demand curve.

The movements of the demand curve can be caused by:

1-. Relation with other goods: 2 cases

• Substitute goods: A substitute good refers to a product o service that
consumers see as essentially the same or similar- enought to another
product, because it satisfies the same need or desire.
Es un producto o servicio que la gente considera que satisface de la
misma forma que otro.
• Complementary goods: Has little to no value when consumed alone, but
when combined with another good o service, they add to the overall value
of the offering.
Es un un producto o servicio que beneficia a otro que lo complementa por
ejemplos: carros y gasolina. Teléfonos y cargadores.

2-. Changes in income: 3 cases

• Inferior: Are those whose demand drops when people´s incomes rise.
Son aquellos bienes o servicios que bajan su demanda cuando
incrementa el ingreso de las personas
• Normal: All type of good or service in which the demand increases as the
consumer`s income increases, this is proportionality.
Dependiendo del ingreso de las personas es su consumo. +ingreso,
+consumo. -ingreso, -consumo.
• Superior/luxury: They are like normal goods, the difference is that thgeir
demand increases beyond proportionality.
Si tienes más ingreso compras más cosas caras.

3-. Changes in preferences:

• Public´s desires, emotions, or preferences change in favor it will increase;
tastes, trends or preferences go against it will decrease.
Moda sube, demanda sube. Moda baja, demanda baja. Tiene que ver con
el comportamiento del consumidor.
4-. Changes in the number of consumers:
• The number of consumers affects overall, or aggregate, demand. As more
buyers enter the market, demand rises.
+ consumidores. + demanda. - consumidores, -demanda; esto afecta
positiva o negativamente la demanda.
