After hearing terrible yet sad stories from my older sister, a nursing student, about their
home visitation in a Gensan centre full of Alzheimer's patients, I made the decision to
put MEMOCARE into practice. She shared stories of old people who were left at care
centers because their families could no longer care for them or had abandoned them
entirely. One particular incident that deeply affected me was the case of an elderly man
who passed away alone, without a single family member visiting him during his final
days. However, after his death, the old man's relatives unexpectedly showed up to the
centre and demanded the money it normally distributes to families whose loved ones
have passed away under their care. These experiences highlighted the pressing need
for initiatives like MEMOCARE, which not only enhance memory and care for older
adults but also promote compassion, dignity, and familial responsibility. I was compelled
to take action to ensure that no elderly individual faces such neglect and abandonment,
and that they receive the support, care, and respect they deserve in their later years.
