With Shaytan locked up during Ramadan, we make extra efforts to amplify our good deeds. Abu Hurayrah narrated that the Prophet ## said, "When Ramadan begins, the gates of Paradise are opened, the gates of Hellfire are closed and the devils are chained’ (Sahih Bukhari and Sahih Muslim) Worship (Ibadah) encompasses fulfilling our obligations (Fardh), strengthening our connection with Allah (swt), which includes increasing prayers, duas, and adhkar. However, obligatory acts extend beyond spiritual acts alone. It's also mandatory for us to be politically aware and to concern ourselves with the affairs of the Ummah. The Prophet (saw) emphasized this when he said, "Whoever does not care for the affairs of the Muslims is not among us.” Ramadan serves as a time for repairing and reinforcing our Imaan. While we recognize that prayers, Quranic recitation, and other acts of worship are obligatory, we may sometimes neglect them throughout the rest of the year. Ramadan provides an opportunity for reflection, enabling us to distance ourselves from distractions. As we endeavour to strengthen our bond with Allah, it's also crucial to contemplate our responsibilities toward the Muslim Ummah. Once the moon is sighted, the whole Islamic Ummah is obliged to fast. The fast begins with fajr, this timing will be different across the Islamic world, but the moon is one, and the Ummah is one. Once it is sighted anywhere in the world, the Muslims prepare to start their fast from the time of sehri. We should not follow leaders who guide us into sin by putting nationalism as a barrier to fulfilling our Islamic obligation.
