Corporate Social Responsibility and Community Development


As a responsible corporate citizen, the Company pursues its social obligations with utmost earnestness.
corporate responsibility is a collective effort. We strive to ensure that sustainability policies and programmes
are firmly embedded in every aspect of our business operations. The Company integrates social and
environmental concerns with its business and in our interaction with our stakeholders. We are committed to
fostering sustainable communities through wide-range programs geared to develop economies, improve lives
and create opportunity.
The Company has been pursuing a number of welfare programs aimed at improving the quality of the life of
communities in and around our business.
Our Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives have been recognised and appreciated by various agencies
through many awards and recognitions. Infra continues to contribute actively towards community welfare
measures and has taken up several initiatives/measures related to education, healthcare, environmental
improvement and other developmental measures.
Various CSR and welfare measures undertaken by the Company are as under:

Roads Business

Education

 Eye screening camps: Health check-up camps with a major focus on eye screening was organized at
schools in the nearby villages.
 Awareness programme on Road Safety: This programme was conducted at different schools to create
awareness on road safety.

Healthcare

 Pulse polio Immunization program: The pulse polio camps were organized at toll plazas on the
highway stretch.
 Blood donation camps: The blood donation campaigns were organized twice in FY 2016-2017.

Swachh Bharat Abhiyaan

 Cleanliness Drive: Cleanliness drives were conducted across the key company offices and the
neighboring localities with an objective to create a clean and healthy work place. Many employees
across the organization participated in this mass movement and customers were sensitized on this
movement through social media urging them to join the event.
 Awareness on Cleanliness and hygiene: The roads business toll plazas and project highway inculcated
the concept of cleanliness and hygiene by putting Placards and Signage's in Public areas for not
spitting, littering, placements of dustbins, maintenance of toilets and way side amenities / user facility
to encourage commuters to use them and not to spoil the Highway or Toll Plaza area.
Support to Healthcare

Day Care Oncology Centres:

 Cancer is one of the biggest health concerns in India and cancer treatment and care is prohibitively
expensive. 92% patients from rural households do not have proper infrastructure and specialist
support.
 Appreciating the huge imbalance in the facilities for treating cancer, we at Reliance Infrastructure
with support from Mandke Foundation are establishing Cancer care centre in Maharashtra. We have
initiated the project at Akola and Jalna District, of Maharashtra to provide medical, radiation and
surgical oncology to rural populace in a phase wise manner.
 These centres would focus on bridging the present gaps in cancer treatment facilities in rural India
apart from bringing in state of the art technology and other resources on ground. The focus would be
to provide day care services including chemotherapies, radiation, and diagnostics including PET CT
besides consultations and telemedicine.

At Reliance, we firmly believe in our commitment to all our stakeholders. We are aware of our
commitment to local communities for ensuring sustainable development. Therefore, we lay high
emphasis on understanding the requirements of the local community and embark on initiatives,
expending considerable resources, which create long-term societal benefits.
We take utmost care in the selection of community interventions we initiate. Our prime endeavour is to
remain focused on creating long-term wealth creation for all local community members irrespective of
their gender, ethnic and religious backgrounds.
Being a conglomerate with diverse business interests, across various segments of economy, we are in a
position to integrate our services, let that be clean energy, financial services, entertainment and others.
We explore to amalgamate potential benefits one segment of the business may offer to the others so
that a holistic solution addressing the needs and concerns of local community is found.

Guided Principles

Our combined social development initiatives under Reliance Power Group CSR are aimed at raising living
standards for local communities. These efforts are guided by the following guiding principles:

1. The Reliance Power CSR Policy which provides direction to all our CSR efforts is a consolidated
policy which will not only cover the Company on a stand- alone basis, but also its subsidiary
companies.
2. As most of the company’s projects are located in remote / rural areas, where basic infrastructure
is inadequate and socio-economic profile of the people is relatively weak, the company shall
strive to contribute towards improving the quality of life of the local Communities living in these
areas.
3. The company and its subsidiaries shall undertake appropriate CSR measures, which have a direct
and positive economic, social and environmental impact with particular focus on areas
mentioned in the Schedule VII of companies Act 2013 as well as the Sustainable Development
Goals (SDGs).
4. Honour spirit of law and be a responsible corporate citizen while we make every effort to
produce clean electricity with emphasis on Energy Conservation and Environment Protection.
5. Pursue growth through harmony with global community via innovative management aspiring to
achieve greater balance between social & economic development.
6. Aim for inclusive growth, respect culture and customs of every project / plant location and work
towards eliminating societal barriers such as poverty, social class, disability and others.
7. Foster a corporate culture that promotes individual creativity, value of teamwork and social
volunteerism.

Our greatest strength is that we look at our community interventions as part of our business, not post-
profit philanthropy.

RELIANCE COMMUNICATION

The #FreedomToRoam campaign succeeded in achieving the following

 Generated a buzz– The campaign achieved tremendous reach, which in turn generated a lot of
curiosity about the ‘One India. One Rate’ plan in the minds of Twitter users. Many users tweeted
their queries about the plan.
 Started conversations – The crowdsourcing nature of the campaign gave Reliance
Communications the ability to start and sustain quality conversations.
 Encouraged participation – The Twitter universe participated wholeheartedly in order to ensure
that @ghaatidancer had the best experiences in every city.
 Brought people together – It demonstrated beautifully how the plan ultimately helps users stay
in constant touch with their loved ones. The influencer got a huge surprise when a friend from
Kolkata, paid her an impromptu visit after noticing her #FreedomToRoam tweets mentioning her
Kolkata trip. And then they took a selfie, of course!
 Built on the brand’s goodwill – The campaign encouraged a lot of users to come forth and share
their experiences of the brand with the world.
 Created contexts to talk about the plan – The campaign leveraged the hype around the football
final to talk about the plan in the right context.
