pattern:

here)

ACTIVITY 1

4
5

6
7

Good job kids

Now, you are on your way learning the names of the Arabic letters.
8

This time, you are about to encounter the short vowel sounds.

In Arabic, we have 4 vowels. Namely, Fatha (ََ ), Kasrah (ِ ), Dammah (ُ ), and sukoon

( ْ ).

We will start first the Fatha Sound.

The symbol of the Fatha ( َ ) represents the /A/ sound.

When Fatha ( َ ) is being used in the Arabic Letter ‫( ا‬Alif), then you are going to read
it as /A/.

Example:

A-‫َا‬ Ba- ‫َب‬

Ta- ‫َت‬ Tha- ‫َث‬

Ja- ‫َج‬ Ha- ‫َح‬

Kha- ‫َخ‬ Da- ‫َد‬

Dza- ‫َذ‬ Ra- ‫َر‬

Za-‫َز‬ Sa- ‫َس‬

Sha- ‫َش‬ Sa- ‫َص‬

Da- ‫َض‬ Ta-‫َط‬

Da-‫َظ‬ A- ‫َع‬
Ga- ‫َغ‬ Fa- ‫َف‬

Qa- ‫َق‬ Ka- ‫َك‬

La- ‫َل‬ Ma- ‫َم‬

Na- ‫َن‬ Wa-‫َو‬

Laa-‫َال‬ Ya- ‫َي‬

This time, we will now proceed to another Arabic vowel.

In Arabic, we have the Kasrah (ِ ) vowel.

The symbol of the Kasrah (ِ ) represents the /I/ sound.

When Kasrah (ِ ) is being used in the Arabic Letter ‫( ا‬Alif), the you are going to read
it as /I/.

Example:

I or E-‫ِا‬ Bi-‫ِب‬

Ti-‫ِت‬ Thi-‫ِث‬

Ji-‫ِج‬ Hi-‫ِح‬

Khi-‫ِخ‬ Di- ‫ِد‬

Dzi- ‫ِذ‬ Ri-‫ِر‬

Zi-‫ِز‬ Si-‫ِس‬

Shi-‫ِش‬ Si-‫ِص‬

Di-‫ِض‬ Ti- ‫ِط‬

Di- ‫ِظ‬ I-‫ِع‬

Gi-‫ِغ‬ Fi- ‫ِف‬

Qi-‫ِق‬ Ki- ‫ِك‬

Li- ‫ِل‬ Mi- ‫ِم‬

Ni- ‫ِن‬ Wi-‫ِو‬

Lii- ‫ِال‬ Yi-‫ِي‬

10

Next in line, we will continue to another Arabic vowel sound.

Aside from the previous vowel that you have encounter, we have also the Dammah (
ُ ) vowel.

The symbol of the Dammah ( ُ ) represents the /O/ sound.

When Dammah ( ُ ) is being used in the Arabic Letter ‫( ا‬Alif), then you are going to
read it as /O/ or /U/.

Example:

O or U-‫ُا‬ Bo- ‫ُب‬

To- ‫ُت‬ Tho- ‫ُث‬

Jo- ‫ُج‬ Ho- ‫ُح‬

Kho- ‫ُخ‬ Do- ‫ُد‬

Dzo- ‫ُذ‬ Ro- ‫ُر‬

Zo- ‫ُز‬ So- ‫ُس‬

Sho- ‫ُش‬ So- ‫ُص‬

Do- ‫ُض‬ To-‫ُط‬

Do-‫ُظ‬ O- ‫ُع‬

Go- ‫ُغ‬ Fo- ‫ُف‬

Qo- ‫ُق‬ Ko- ‫ُك‬

Lo- ‫ُل‬ Mo- ‫ُم‬

No- ‫ُن‬ Wo- ‫ُو‬

Yo- ‫ُي‬
11

This time, let us Learn another Arabic vowel.

In Arabic, we have the sukoon ( ْ ) vowel.

The symbol of the sukoon ( ْ )represents the /silent/ sound. In other words, the
sukoon vowel doesn't give sound at all.

When sukoon ( ْ ) is being used in the Arabic Letter ‫( ب‬ba), like this one: ‫َع ْب َس‬, you
are going to read this as /sab-a/. As you notice, the letter b ( ‫ )ب‬doesn't have any
vowel on it because that is the function of the sukoon vowel; it makes every Arabic
Letter a silent sound.

Example:

Muz'no - ‫ُن‬ ‫ُم ْز‬- ‫ز‬ Tis'a - ‫َع‬ ‫ِت ْس‬- ‫س‬

Bay'tun- ‫
