READING TWO-WAY TABLES SOLUTIONS

TASK 1 Where do you live?

1 7 year 3 students live in an apartment.

2 51 students in year 5 live in a house.
3 Number of students living in houses = 48 + 32 + 51
= 131

TASK 2 Cold weather

1 124 people were surveyed altogether.

2 46 people wore both gloves and a scarf.
3 19 people wore gloves but no scarf.
4 78 people wore a scarf.
5 27 tells you how many people wore neither scarf nor gloves.
6 Since most people coming into the store wore scarves and/or gloves, it would seem there is
a demand for them. The scarf seems more popular than gloves.

TASK 3 Complete the two-way table

460 – 139 = 321

321 – 253 = 68
139 – 87 = 52
253 + 52 = 305
68 + 87 = 155
Check: 305 + 155 = 460
