Please do not reproduce, distribute, translate, sell or change the pattern and images in any way.
It’s prohibited. However, feel free to sell the finished products/toys.

Have fun crocheting!

The finished toy is approximately 16 х 16 х 7 cm.

2
Gauge*:
for pages with hook 3 mm: 10х10 cm = 26 stitches x 30 rows
with hook 2 mm in spiral rounds: 10х10 cm = 34 stitches x 34 rounds
* In this project, the gauge is not important, I indicate my gauge only for an example.
If your gauge is different, then the book will turn out bigger or smaller than mine.

Materials and tools for crocheting

● 4-ply sport weight yarn * (amounts are approximate**), 1 skein = 50 grams:
○ beige - 3 skeins
○ green - 1.5 skeins (you may need 2)
○ light brown - 3/5 skein
○ coffee - 1/4 skein
○ orange - 2/5 skein
○ gray - 1/10 skein
○ dark green - 1/10 skein
○ for decorating a little light blue and mustard yarn
*I used YarnArt Jeans (55% cotton + 45% Acrylic), 174 yards (160m), 1.76 ounces (50 g):
Colors: beige 05, green 69, light brown 87, blue 17, coffee 71, orange 28, gray 46 , dark
green 82, light blue 75, mustard 84.
**Yarn consumption can increase up to 1.5 times when crocheting with yarn over (YO) way.
And the finished book will have a bigger size.
The weight of the finished book is 260-270 grams.
● Needle for sewing on details, scissors, thin needle for eyes embroidery, sewing
pins, stitch markers (optional).
● Some black and pink (optional) thread for embroidery (I used YarnArt Jeans yarn,
dividing it into 4 threads).
● Hook size 2 and 3 mm.
● Optional: baking sleeve for rustling effect (as a rustling element).
● Optional: sewing magnets with the PVC cover (4 pieces), diameter from 1.5 cm.
Note: magnets of a smaller diameter weakly magnetized through two layers of
crocheted fabric. You can take one magnet with a diameter of 1 cm (for paws), and
another with a diameter of 1.7 cm, then it will also work well. If you don't use
magnets, then the paws need to steam well.
● Squeakers (optional), for the dinosaur on the cover, it is recommended to use flat
squeakers, for example 53 mm x 10 mm.
● Rattle (optional) for the dinosaur in the egg (22 mm x 10 mm).

3

● dec — sc decrease (when crocheting in a turning rows) — single crochet 2 together
(how to crochet https://youtu.be/hOINjJ-MRmU)
● ch — chain stitch
● slst — slip stitch
● (...)*n — repeat instruction in brackets n times
● R – row/round
● ws – wrong side
● rs – right side
● BLO — crochet stitches back loops only
● FLO — crochet stitches front loops only
Recommendations (notes)
● All pieces, unless otherwise indicated, are crocheted in spiral rounds (without
joining, NO slip stitch, NO chain 1) or in turning rows.
● When crocheting pieces in a spiral round, in most cases, decreases and increases
should be located on the sides of the pieces. If necessary, you can move the place
of increases/decreases forward or backward.
● You can put rustling elements in dinosaurs (can be made from a baking sleeve, use
6-8 layers). In some pieces, you can put squeakers, rattles or sew magnets
(optional).
● Please sew on all small parts VERY tightly.
● The toy must meet the safety requirements defined in toy safety standards:
○ Toys for children under 36 months old should not have small parts (a small
part is any object that fits completely into a specially designed test cylinder
57.1 mm long by 31.7 mm).
○ Cords shall have a length less than 220 mm (if toys are intended for children
under 18 months) or less than 300 mm (for children under 36 months). The
laces do not form a movable or fixed loop, the perimeter of which is more
than 360 mm.
● Sometimes you need to crochet front loop (FLO) or back loop (BLO) only:

cover the eyes and blush).
2. Cut a small piece of green yarn. Separate one of the 4
threads. Thread the thread into a thin needle.

3. Sew the PVC cover to the head: on the head, grab only the top layer of the stitch,
without bringing the thread to the front side.

4. After sewing, tie the ends of the thread together several times and cut off the
excess length.
5. Repeat for the second magnet.

Turn out the part on the front side and continue crocheting:
Note: in R21-24, the decreases should be on the sides. If necessary, move the place of
decrease back or forward.

THE FIRST STEGOSAURUS PAGE
Start with the beige color yarn, hook 3 mm.
Make 35 ch.
R1: begin from the second loop from the hook: 34 sc in back bumps of the foundation
chain, ch, turn.
R2-3: 34 sc, ch, turn (2 rows).
Next, we will crochet a pattern using the intarsia method according to the chart
(text description below):

How to work with the chart (for all pages):

The numbers on the cells indicate balls of yarn,
crossed out numbers - cut and fasten off the yarn.
1 cell = 1 sc.
Underlined cells (for example, in the 4th row) - crochet stitches back loops only.
The yarn colors must be changed in the last sc of the old color (see photos and the
video below).
!!! But if there is a * sign in the cell, then it is necessary to crochet the sc completely
with the old color, the next sc is crocheted with a new color (i.e. the first sc of the new
color will have the loop of the old color, and the post will be a new color).
After changing colors, always leave the yarn on the wrong side.
Here, the even rows are the right side, the odd rows are the wrong side, that is, in even
rows - leave the yarn behind your work, and in odd rows - in front of your work.

Cut the yarn and fasten off, leaving a long end for sewing on the fern.

Sew ferns to the blank page. Sew along the branch and in the center of the leaf. Fasten the
ends of the yarn on the wrong side.

ASSEMBLY
1. With a hook 3 mm. With a separate piece of beige yarn. Crochet the cover and the first
stegosaurus page together with sc (see photo and video below). Start crocheting from the
upper right corner of the cover, i.e. position the cover “towards you”, so that the front side
of the assembly row is on the cover side. In the corners crochet 1 sc.

Make invisible fasten off (be sure to skip the first stitch, see the video below, time 3:34).
Hide the ends of the yarn inside two pages.
Optionally, you can put a rustler between the pages.
For convenience, let's call the two crocheted pages sheet 1.

2. In the same way, crochet the second stegosaurus page and the page with
brachiosaurus together (sheet 2). Start crocheting from the upper right corner of the page
with brachiosaurus, i.e. position the brachiosaurus page “towards you”.
Make invisible fasten off. Hide the ends of the yarn inside two pages.

58
3. Crochet the page with the egg and the page with volcano together (sheet 3), and in the
process of crocheting, crochet the egg strap to the sheet:
Start crocheting from the top right corner of the page with the egg, i.e. position the page
with the egg “towards you”.
Make 57 sc, crochet the egg strap with 6 sc, 56 sc, crochet the egg strap on the other side
with 6 sc, 23 sc. Make invisible fasten off. Hide the ends of the yarn inside two pages.

4. Crochet the page with t-rex and the back cover (the blank page or the page with ferns)
together (sheet 4), in the process of crocheting, crochet the t-rex strap to the sheet. Start
crocheting from the top right corner of the back cover: make 58 sc, crochet the t-rex strap
with 6 sc, 55 sc, crochet the t-rex strap with 6 sc, 23 sc.
Make invisible fasten off. Hide the ends of the yarn inside two pages.

59
Binding:
Crochet with the beige color yarn, hook 3 mm.

Join the yarn to sheet 1 as shown in the photo below (to the lower right corner of the first
stegosaurus page)
R1: 40 sc.

join the yarn 40 sc

R2: ch, turn, 40 sc through R1 and sheet 2 (align pages with the stegosaurus inside to
make a spread).

R3-4: ch, turn, 40 sc (2 rows).

Note: do not crochet R4 if the length of binding is
enough to assemble pages with a pop-up mechanism,
i.e. instead of two rows, you can crochet one.

60
R5: ch, turn, 40 sc through R4 and sheet 3.

R6-9: ch, turn, 40 sc (4 rows).

Cut the yarn, leaving a long end of the yarn about

100 cm (~6 page height lengths).
Sew the sheet 4 to the binding, see the video below.
Fasten off, and hide all the ends of the yarn inside
the pages.

Note (optional): the binding can be strengthened (I do not do this).

To do this, crochet a strip with a width of 40 sc and a height of 10
rows: That is: Make 41 ch.
R1: begin from the second loop from the hook:
40 sc in back bumps of the foundation chain, ch, turn.
R2-9: 40 sc, ch, turn.
R10: 40 sc. Cat the yarn and fasten off.
Fasten the strip to the binding with slst (along R1 and R10) with a
separate piece of yarn. Inside the binding, you can put a plastic
canvas (optional). Crochet sc along the top and the bottom edges of
the binding in the same way as described below, but through two
layers.

61
Insert the hook into the back loop of the second stitch (from the binding of the page) on
the page. Join the yarn as shown in the photo below, skip one stitch, and starting from the
next stitch, crochet 1 sc per row. At the end of the row, make invisible fasten off. Secure
the yarn ends. Hide the ends of the yarn inside the pages. Repeat for the other side of the
binding.

The child's name can be embroidered on the cover or other personalization can be made.
You can crochet an eyelet for attaching to a stroller or crib.
You can add a wooden ring or teether to the binding by attaching it to a crocheted loop.
