Oxford: Oxford Further Education Unit For me - the key for the content of the Reflective log for SOE11159 is this sentence ~ ‘You should include reflection on the teamwork undertaken for assessment component 1 as well as the individual learning during the firm case report (Component 2.1). Your report should be of 1000 words.’ And also ‘The purpose of this assessment is to require you to reflect on your learning in fundamental business functions. Reflection is a means of improving performance and preventing us from making the same mistakes repeatedly. Reflection involves looking back at previous experiences, to consider what problems arose, how we handled them, what lessons we can learn, and how we might handle similar situations that arise in the future. It is an ongoing process which requires us to monitor changes we introduce to see if they produce improved performance and, if not, to try alternative measures. You should include reflection on the teamwork undertaken for assessment component 1 as well as the individual learning during the firm case report (Component 2.1). Your report should be of 1000 words. Reflective logs provide you with an opportunity effectively analyse your own performance and ability to apply your theoretical knowledge. A reflective log is essentially a diary but detailing your experiences and emotions in relation to your learning experiences. These can however be presented in different ways and for this piece of work you need not include the actual dates, but you should include events/experiences. You will not be able to include all the reflection that you were asked to record throughout the module. You should however select key events/experiences to discuss and an appropriate framework for reflection, such as Gibb’s Reflective Cycle, to ald your examination of these events, This will enable you to deliver your reflection in a concise yet critical and analytical manner. Itis appropriate to support your reflection with reference to academic resources and lecture materials. You should include brief descriptions of events that occurred throughout the module covering both the groupwork and the individual work. You should also discuss your feelings in relation to this as self-analysis is an important part of development. It is helpful to include any evidence in your reflection. Any challenges or areas of difficulty are also important to include in your work. The purpose of this assessment is to require you to reflect on your learning in fundamental business functions. Your reflection should cover both the group and individual stages of the module. Reflection on your individual work will enable you to consider your preparation for, and completion of, the individual assessment (taking on board constructive criticism in feedback is particularly important). The Reflective log should be submitted a week later by 23:59 UK time on Friday 3¢ May 2024. Some Observations on the first drafts of the Indi 1. You'll remember | always highlight that you should use the exact same wort and this applies here as well (and no doubt will apply to every assessment you Soin the case of the draft what you can do is use phrases such as the following: “in terms of its historical background, Tesco. “Regarding demand side aspects, BAE systems. “With regard to industry characteristics, Unilever operates in... So here you MUST focus on the question you are being asked and sections are focused, 2. Source use ~make sure you use sources to support all your points ~ and integrate them into the paragraphs rather than have a full paragraph and then put the source at the end. Also think about using phrases such as ‘According to their official website.....’ and ‘In much of the literature (e.g, REF; REF)...” In addition ~ critique sources ~ e.g. mention if a source is ‘official’; if itis ‘recent’ or ‘perhaps somewhat dated’ or focuses on a particular areas or group. 3. Structure ~ as | mentioned for other writings ~ have a structure outline type statement at the end of the introduction that tells the reader how the rest of the report is structured ~ e.g. ‘The remainder of this report is structured as follows: Section 2 focuses on... Section 3 deals with the demand and supply side aspects related to Unilever, including segmentation...’ These kinds of things. When you do this it outlines to the reader what the rest is like and also clearly outlines it for you as well, ~ FOLLOW THE EXACT SAME STRUCTURE AS IN MAHINDA’S MODULE HANDBOOK. 4, CRITIQUE ~ here's the bit | said I'd copy from my notes on the other drafts ~ about Critique and an example of how you could do this ~ I'm thinking here you could do this with yours when you talk about why you chose PEST or PESTLE or SWOT etc “Another key thing that strikes me on one ~ and one thing I have been saying to pretty much everyone is... CRITIQUE the models you choose ~ now....what | mean by this is ~ If you choose to use Porter's 5 forces, or you choose to use SWOT, or VRIO — say WHY you chose this model— a. what is good about it? 8. What have others have used it for? Also ~c....DOES IT HAVE any disadvantages ~ and WHAT OTHER models COULD you have chosen ~ and d. why did you choose not to - and ~ at the end WHY have you settled on the one you have. Here’s an example of what I'm thinking of ~ ‘For the purposes of this report it was decided to use the SWOT analysis as it (a) provides a solid overview of the company position. (b) the SWOT model has been widely used in the fields of engineering (REF), and also business (REF) (c) Whilst the SWOT model is unable to give as wide a picture as model such as PESTEL which provides a wider picture it was (d) nevertheless arguably suitable to analyse the strategic options for X as it provides a useful picture of the internal capabilities of the company.” 5. Turnitin you will have seen with many of the drafts that the Turnitin similarities are too high — land this is a serious problem as if the matches are too high when you hand your work in it will either be considered an academic misconduct case ~ or it will not be considered sufficiently original and produced by you. Even if you directly quote all the sources it is still unacceptable as a piece of work as it is not yours ~ and if you don’t and the similarity is too high then itis a case of academic misconduct. Having said that - it is good that you see this now as it makes you aware that you need to reduce these. So - here’s a suggested strategy for doing so: First open the Turnitin report ~ click on the coloured box and it will give you the report and show you what is similar. Second — either move this to one screen or move it to one side of the screen Third open up your report and rework the parts that are similar by using your own words more and incorporating more sources for support I'll demonstrate now if you like? To help you pass — go to class; always ask; and read read read in the subject &
