ABOUT THE ARTIST: “When I came across Andrea’s outstanding musicianship I knew I was witnessing the birth of a true exceptional artist” —Sergio Assad “Italian Guitarist, Andrea Roberto's triumph in the 2019 Parkening International Guitar Competition, the world's preeminent competition of its kind, has moved him into the forefront of the classical guitar world, Andrea distinguished himself at the Giordano Conservatory under Maestro Sandro Torlontano where he obtained the Bachelor degree at the age of 14. Subsequently, He began to display his prodigious talent and refined his artistry under the guidance of Maestro Aniello Desiderio in Koblenz (Germany) and Carlo Marchione in Maastricht (Netherlands). His remarkable musicianship and virtuosity have led him to awards and performances across the globe, including the “Andres Segovia” prize in Pescara, the “Jose Tomas” prize in Petrer etc. In 2017, Andrea made debut recording, “El Viaje de la guitarra italiana” with JSG Records which has received much critical acclaim. David Russell has noted: “Andrea’s attractive phrasing of melody paired with an impressive level of technical difficulty has earned him a place in the classical guitar community.” Andrea debuted with orchestra at age of 15 performing the Concerto in A major by M.Giuliani with the “Umberto Giordano” Philharmonic and has participated in numerous radio broadcasts such as Vatican radio, international Spanish Radio RTVE-Madrid, Radio UAEM of Cuernavaca (Mexico). He went on to distinguish himself at the Maastricht Conservatory under Maestro Carlo Marchione, where he began to display his prodigious talent. Since then, his remarkable musicianship and virtuosity have led to performances across the globe. In 2017, Andrea made his debut recording, “El Viaje de la guitarra italiana” with JSG Records which has received much critical acclaim. At the 2019 Parkening International Guitar Competition, during a sold-out final round held with orchestra, Andrea's rich sound, polished technique, and musicality captured the Gold Medal, $30,000 Jack Marshall Prize, from this gathering of 15 of the world's top young virtuosos. This Gold Medal Prize has secured his place firmly in the front rank of young guitarists worldwide. Competition in 2019. His formal studies in music began at th r Giordano Conservatory at age 9 (graduating at age 14) and h went on to distinguish himself at the Maastricht Conservato; je under Maestro Carlo Marchione. He received his Masters of Music from the University of Arizona under Thomas Patterson j 2021. Since then, he has toured across the world, including in Europe, Asia and the Americas. His recording El Viaje de la guitarra italiana with JSG Records has been released to critical acclaim. Roberto currently serves as Professor of Guitar at the Conservatory of Bari, Niccold Piccinni. Prof. Roberto’s performance on the Friday Music Concert Series is co-sponsored by the Italian Research Institute of Georgetown University (Prof. Serafina Hager, Director).
