INTRODUCTION

A. Problem Background

Prayer is the soul of religion. Where there is no prayer, there can be no

purification of the soul. The non-praying man is rightly considered to be a soulless man.

Take prayer out of the world, and it is all over with religion because it is with prayer

that man has the consciousness of God and selfless love for humanity and inner sense of

[Link] is, therefore, the first, the highest, and the most solemn phenomenon and

manifestation of religion.

The way in which prayer is offered and the words which are recited in it explain

the true nature of religion of which it is the expression of man's contact with the Lord.

Prayer in Islam gives in a nutshell the teachings of Islam. The very first thing

which comes into prominence in Islamic prayer is that it is accompanied by bodily

movements. It implies that Islam lifts not only the soul to the spiritual height, but also

illuminates the body of man with the light of [Link] aims at purifying

both body and soul, for it finds no cleavage between [Link] does not regard body

and soul as two different entities opposed to each other, or body as the prison of the soul

from which It yearns to secure freedom in order to soar to heavenly heights. "The soul is

an organ of the body which exploits it for physiological purposes, or body is an

instrument of the soul, and thus both need spiritual enlightenment.

Secondly, Islamic prayer does not aim at such a spiritual contact with God in

which the world and self are absolutely denied, in which human personality is

1
dissolved, disappears and is absorbed in the Infinite [Link] does not favour such a

meditation and absorption in which man ceases to be conscious of his own self and feels

himself to be perfectly identified with the Infinite, and claims in a mood of ecstasy: My

"I" has become God, or rather he is God. Islam wants to inculcate the consciousness of

the indwelling of the light of God in body and soul but does allow him to transport

himself in the realm of lnfinity. It impresses upon his mind that he is the humble servant

of the Great and Glorious Lord and his spiritual development and religious piety lies in

sincere and willing obedience to [Link] very first step towards the achievement of

this objective is that man should have a clear consciousness of his own finiteness and

Infiniteness of the Lord, and clearly visualise and feel that he is created as a human

being by the Creator and Master of the universe, and he cannot, therefore, become

demi-god or [Link] success lies in proving himself by his outlook and behaviour that

he is the true and loyal servant of his Great [Link] prayer is, therefore, the

symbol of humble reverence before the Majesty of the Glorious Lord.

A. Book Of Prayer

In science, there are various texts that are guidelines for Muslims in daily

worship. One of the important texts is the Book of Prayer. It contains a series of prayers

used in various religious activities, such as prayer, fasting, and other worship. In this

paper, a study of the significance and role of the book of prayer in the science of fiction

will be carried out, in particular through the analysis of the reading text contained in it. 1

In Muslim religious practice, the prayer book or Book of Prayer plays an

important role in guiding Muslims in carrying out their worship correctly and feeling

close to Allah SWT. The prayer book is not just a collection of prayers, but is an

important source of guidance in the science of jurisprudence. In this paper, we will

discuss the role and significance of prayer books in the science of jurisprudence, as well

as the importance of understanding the reading texts contained in them.

Prayer books or Books of Prayer have been an integral part of Muslim life since

ancient times. The historical traces and development of prayer books illustrate how the

practice of prayer has been enriched and shaped by various cultural influences,

traditions and religious values. In this paper, we will review the origins of the prayer

book and look at several literature references which can be the main source in

understanding this.2

A prayer book, or Book of Prayer, is a book or collection of texts containing

prayers used by Muslims in various religious activities, such as prayer, fasting, dhikr,

and other worship services. Prayer books also often include prayers for various needs,

such as prayers for health, protection, sustenance, and so on. Prayer books have an

important role in guiding Muslims in praying and drawing closer to Allah SWT.

B. Prayer Books in Islamic Tradition and the Difference between the Qur’an and

the Hadith

In the Islamic tradition, "prayer book" refers to a collection of prayers used by

Muslims in various worship activities, daily life situations, or to ask Allah SWT for

help, protection and forgiveness. This prayer book contains prayers which are often

arranged based on certain topics or needs, such as prayers before sleeping, prayers

before eating, prayers for health, prayers for safe travel, and so on.3

The differences between prayer books, the Koran, and Hadith are as follows:

1. Al-Quran: The Qur’an is the holy book in the Islamic religion which is considered

the word of Allah SWT which was revealed to the Prophet Muhammad SAW

through the angel Gabriel. The Koran contains instructions, teachings and laws that

serve as guidelines for Muslims in their lives. Although the Al-Quran also contains

several prayers taught by Allah SWT, the main focus of the Al-Quran is to provide

guidance for human life as a whole.

2. Hadith: Hadith is a collection of records about the words, actions and agreements of

the Prophet Muhammad SAW conveyed by his companions. Hadith help explain

and interpret the teachings of the Koran and provide examples of direct practice

from the Prophet Muhammad SAW. Although the Hadith also contains prayers

taught by the Prophet, not all of them are used in the daily lives of Muslims.4

C. The Historical Development Of the Prayer Books In the Practice of Islamic

Worship

The history of the development of prayer books in Islamic worship practices

reflects the evolution of Muslims' religious practices from time to time. When Islam

was first introduced by the Prophet Muhammad SAW in the 7th century AD, prayers

were taught orally to his friends. The Prophet Muhammad SAW is the main source of

Islamic prayers, and he taught his followers prayers for various life situations.

After the death of the Prophet Muhammad SAW, the period of Khulafaur

Rasyidin's leadership saw the compilation and collection of the prayers taught by the

Prophet. These prayers were compiled in written form and expanded according to the

needs of Muslims at that time.

During this period, many new prayers taught by the Prophet Muhammad SAW

were immortalized in hadiths narrated by his companions. These prayers form an

important part of the Islamic practice of worship and form the basis for a more complete

prayer book.5

In the following century, prayer books began to be collected and compiled into

more structured books. Islamic scholars such as Imam An-Nawawi, Imam Al-Ghazali,

and Imam Ibn Kathir were among those who compiled prayer books that were popular

at that time.

The Sufism tradition also made a major contribution to the development of

prayer books in Islamic worship practices. Sufis often wrote prayer books that

emphasized the spiritual and mystical aspects of worship. In the modern era, prayer

books remain an integral part of Muslim worship. Prayer books are continuously

updated and adapted to the needs and demands of the times.

6
This, the history of the development of prayer books in Islamic worship

practices reflects the transformation and evolution of Muslims' religious practices from

time to time. The prayer book remains a source of inspiration and guidance for Muslims

in carrying out their worship and strengthening their spiritual connection with Allah

SWT.
