atlantaThe Golden Bears stunned Albany State for a 20-17 victory on Patton Chambers 29-yard field goal with nine seconds left for a 20-17 victory at Clark Atlantas Panther Stadium. Miles (7-4) earned its first SIAC championship and knocked Albany State (8-3) out of contention for its seventh consecutive automatic bid to the NCAA Division II playoffs. Its the first time since 2000 that either Albany State or Tuskegee didnt win the SIAC. With only four winning seasons since 1963 and a 3-8 record in 2010, Miles seemed like an unlikely candidate to break through. But first-year coach Reginald Ruffin led Miles to the West division championship and won the leagues first championship game. Albany State won four consecutive games to win the East division and was looking for its 15th SIAC title. But the Golden Rams had two turnovers when driving for scores and missed a go-ahead field-goal try before Miles winning drive. Albany State lost to Miles for the first time since 2002. Baltimore, mdQuarterback Chris Walley passed for two touchdowns and ran for another, and the Norfolk State defense held Morgan State scoreless in the second half to lead the Spartans to a 47-14 win on Saturday afternoon at Hughes Stadium, clinching the Spartans first-ever outright MEAC football title and Division I FCS playoff bid. The 22nd-ranked Spartans (9-2, 7-1 MEAC) secured the schools fifth conference football title of any kind, and the first since the 1984 team won the last of the programs four CIAA titles in Division II. NSU also won its ninth game of the year Saturday, secondmost in school history behind the 1984 team, which finished 10-2. The Spartans also secured the MEACs automatic berth in the 20-team Division I FCS playoffs, which begin on Nov. 26. Race To Birmingham
THe SWAC Football scenario could be cleared up this Saturday. While Alabama State and Grambling wait, Prairie View A&Ms Homecoming matchup vs. Alabama A&M could decide everything.
lanGSton, oKThe word of the week is IF in the Southwestern Athletic Conference. After last weeks play division championships remain unsettled. The race for the Eastern Division remained status quo with the top two eligible teams both lost -- Alabama State (7-3, 7-2) defeating Southern 26-23 and Alabama A&M (7-3, 6-2)defeating Jackson State 34-6. JSU (8-2, 6-2) is ineligible for the title because of academic deficiencies. Grambling (6-4, 5-3) and Prairie View (55, 5-3) stayed tied atop the Western Division. GSU squeaked by Texas Southern 29-25 and PV (5-5, 5-3) blew out Alcorn 40-14. That sets up a series of permutations that could take two weeks to shake out. Games that will factor into the division races will be Alabama A&M at Prairie View and Texas Southern at Arkansas-Pine Bluff (5-5, 4-4), who is a game back of GSU and PV. Depending on what happens Saturday, Alabama States Turkey Day Classic game against Tuskegee and GSUs matchup with Southern in the Bayou Classic could also factor into the picture.
EASTERN DIVISION Alabama A&M controls its own fate but Alabama State is the only team that can win the division outright. Alabama State (7-3, 7-2) If Prairie View defeats Alabama A&M, then Alabama State holds the tie-breaker over Jackson State if there is a tie at 7-2. (in this scenario, the championship game matchup is Alabama State vs. Prairie View). Alabama A&M (7-3, 6-2) If Alabama A&M defeats Prairie View, then Alabama A&M holds tie-breakers in a twoway tie with Alabama State or a three-way tie with Alabama State and Jackson State. (Note: in this scenario, if Jackson State defeats Alcorn State AND Southern defeats Grambling, then Jackson State would have won a three-way tie-breaker with Alabama A&M and Alabama State, but JSU is ineligible for the SWAC Championship Game). Next Opponent: at Prairie View (Nov. 19)
WESTERN DIVISION Both Prairie View and Grambling can still win the division outright. Prairie View A&M (5-5, 5-3) Prairie View controls its fate vs. Alabama A&M. Prairie View wins, they win the West and Alabama State wins the East. If Prairie View and Grambling both win and there is a tie between them at 6-3 Prairie View wins the tie breaker since defeated Grambling head-to-head. If Prairie View and Grambling both lose, there will be a three-way tie at 5-4 between Prairie View, Grambling, and Southern but PV owns the tie-breaker Prairie View defeated both Grambling and Southern head-to-head. Next Opponent: Alabama A&M (Nov. 19) Grambling State (6-4, 5-3) If Prairie View loses and Grambling defeats Southern, the Tigers will win the West. If AAMU and UAPB both win, then PV is eliminated. Next Opponent: Southern (Nov. 26) Arkansas-Pine Bluff (5-5, 4-4) If Prairie View and Grambling both lose and UAPB wins, there will be a four-way tie at 5-4 between Prairie View, UAPB, Grambling, and Southern UAPB holds the tie-breaker by virtue of what would be its 2-1 record vs. the other three teams tied and head-to-head victory over Prairie View (Prairie View would also have a 2-1 record, Grambling would have a 1-2 record, and Southern would have a 1-2 record). Next Opponent: Texas Southern (Nov. 19) swac.org

Started in 1997, the Pioneer Bowl is an NCAA sanctioned bowl game involving the SIAC and the CIAA. It is the only sanctioned bowl game involving HBCU athletic conferences. thesiac.com

[6] ALBANy STATE VS [3] NORTH GREENVILLE ASU is in the playoffs for the eight straight time. This time, they face a new opponent North Greenville University who makes its first NCAA appearance. NGU runs a truly potent spread option attack. ASU was dissected last week by Miles option offense.
NGU has the best QB ASU will face this season (Willy Korn), graduate of Clemson/ Marshall transfer. He is a dual threat. ASU defense, will play extremely hard as they will prove they can play defense against the option attack.
