Linear Leaping 2011
Linear Leaping 2011
1hroughout your Physical Lducation class this year you hae learned how to improe your physical itness by
repeating exercises with good orm, especially or the exercises: Burpees, Bench-ups, Side-to-side Jumps, and
Jumping Jacks.
an you maintain a pace in your exercising or 5 minutes that keeps your rate o exercise constant throughout the
entire time
Group Investigation
n gym class, you hae looked at the our exercises that we will practice today:
O hoose one exercise that you will try to maintain a consistent pace for S full minutes.
O n your group, each person in the group must complete a dierent exercise. n your group, you rotate through
the ollowing roles: exerciser, counter, timer/recorder, exercise trainer (checking form).
O arm up by completing your exercise rom 5-20 times. Make sure that other members o your group should
count, record, and check the exercise`s orm and use these warm-ups as practice or the roles.
O nce you hae warmed up and you are consistently able to do your exercise with good orm and your group
members can do their tasks eiciently, begin the experiment.
O ^ote: tbe fivat vvvber of rarvv. ,ov ao i. tbe .tartivg ratve of tbe eerivevt. 1he recorder, timer will measure oer
ie minutes the appropriate intervals of time o choice, while the counter keeps track o the total number o
correct exercises you hae completed. \ou should also keep track o how many exercises you hae completed
oer time. 1hroughout this experiment, you should attempt to try to keep your rate o exercise as consistent as
possible. \ou should hae at least 5 pieces o data beyond the initial warm-up alue.
O #ecord your results in a table that shows the time elapsed and the total number o exercises completed.
O #otate through the roles so that each person conducts the exercises and collects the data.
LINEAR LEAPING - PART ONE
Individual Analysis
Be sure that each person has the data that they created or their exercise ,not the data they collected,. 1he work will
be done on your own.
1ake a rest rom the leaping and moe onto to the linear.
. A2, C2 reate a graphical display or your data, with appropriate labels and indicate the independent and
dependent ariables.
2. 2s your data linear Justiy your response in at least two ways.
. Assume the data does hae a linear relationship ,regardless o your answer in question 2,.
a. Determine the equation o the line or this data.
b. , A hat is the slope o this line omment on what this alue means realistically.
c. A2hat is the y-intercept o this line omment on what this alue means realistically.
d. 2, A Using your linear model, how many exercises could you do in 20 minutes ,whew!, onirm your
response using the equation and the graph.
e. 2, A Using your linear model, how many minutes would it take to do 400 exercises onirm your
response using the equation and the graph.
LINEAR LEAPING - PART TWO
Individual Analysis
4. %2, C you decided to exercise at your ull potential,
instead o trying to perorm at a consistent rate, describe
how you think the data and the linear model would change.
6. %2, C Mr. S. decided to exercise at his ull potential during the warm-up, then arried at the experiment data
collecting time exhausted, describe how you think the data and the linear model would change.
