RMP Graduate Program

Portfolio Capstone
Progress Memo

This memo template is for students on the portfolio capstone track to use throughout their
coursework to track their collection of primary and secondary artifacts and to capture brief
reflections on the significance of each artifact to their goals and overall progress. Students
should plan on completing one memo per artifact and sharing their reflections with their
advisors. The memos can then be used in the final semester to help write the final reflective
statements required to complete the portfolio capstone.

Name: Allison Qualls Date: 5/01/2024

Name and description of primary or secondary artifact, including course number or related project,
work, or volunteer experience:
The Grant Application for RMP 912 covers a potential grant request from Northeast Passage’s
Wheelchair Rugby Program requesting a grant from the Turtle Ridge Foundation. This covers
grant intent, innovate ways of engaging the community, and how this grant money would benefit
and impact the community that we serve.

How does the artifact relate to the learning objectives or core competencies of the course in which it
was created or to the larger organizational goals and/needs of the project, volunteer experience, or
internship
This relates to my learning objectives of grant writing for nonprofits. This is an important skill
to have as the majority of adaptive sport organizations are nonprofit. Being able to write and
find grants that fit your program is a hard skill to master.

What did you learn or what was gained by creating or completing work associated with the artifact?
Through doing this artifact I learned about researching for grants and how to understand the
specifics that grant makers set for grants. I also gained a potential new revenue for Northeast
Passage to use with their Wheelchair Rugby Program.

How does the artifact reflect progress toward your goals and how might it be used in a future
professional role?
This artifact works towards my goal of understanding nonprofit organizations, and writing
grants. This will help me in future professional roles because this skill is highly valued in the
nonprofit world. Even if it is just helping search for potential grants can be incredibly helpful.
