In the context of Vedic philosophy
In the context of Vedic philosophy
Jeeva (Jeevan or Jivatma): This refers to the eternal, conscious, and non-physical
essence of an individual. It is often translated as the soul or the "inner self". Jeeva is
Sareera (Sharira): This refers to the physical body or the "outer self". It is also
and subject to change, decay, and death. It includes the gross (sthoola) body made
of five elements and the subtle (sukshma) body consisting of the mind, intellect, and
ego.
The Jeeva dwells within the Sareera and is the conscious force that animates it.
The Sareera provides the Jeeva with a platform to experience the physical world
The Jeeva's ultimate goal is liberation (moksha) from the cycle of birth and death
Here's an analogy:
Imagine a driver (Jeeva) and a car (Sareera). The driver controls the car and
experiences the journey through it, but the car itself is separate from the driver. Both
are necessary for the journey, but they serve different purposes.
Yogic perspective: This focuses on the interconnectedness of the mind, body, and
spirit and uses practices like yoga to achieve harmony between them.
It can also help individuals make conscious choices in their lives that align with their
spiritual goals.
It's important to note that the concept of Jeeva and Sareera is a complex one with various
the dual nature of human existence and the journey towards self-realization.
