FOREWORD
These 24 Studies and ten Scale Studies are a selection from the “ Metodo para Guitarra” by
Dionisio Aguado. The editor has chosen only material of lasting quality. In these Studies is
contained everything characteristic of Aguado’s guitar technique, Unique, for example, is his
treatment of the right hand (Studies No. 10, 12-15 and 17—19) and especially of the thumb
(No. 5), the technique of broken chords (particularly clearly at the end of Studies 22 and 25),
and, basic for the later development of guitar playing, the layout of his scale technique.
The individuality of Aguado in contrast to the other masters of the guitar is of such im-
portance that no guitar player can call his technique perfect unless it includes the study of the
work of Aguado,EBtiden

Note relative aux exercices sur la gamme
Le but
Note on the Scale Studies
The following exercises, if they are conscientiously applied, provide valuable study material
which can be used in progressive stages
‘The main intention is through constant repetition gradually eliminating the printed note, and
by extending the exercise on all six strings to concentrate entirely on the movement of the
fingers.
The division into ten groups has been so arranged by the editor that the fingerings given at
the beginning of each group are repeated regularly in the sub-divisions, and only alterations
in rhythm, phrasing and emphasis occur. Through this a feeling for the cohesion of certain
patterns should be awakened, and thereby clarity and insight attained which in themselves
‘mean an intensification of technique and comprehension.Tonleiter- Studien
