4. COURSE OBJECTIVES
The course is designed to familiarize students with the intermediate accounting. The
course objective is to provide prospective users of financial information with an
understanding of financial accounting issues. In fulfilling this objective, the course
focuses on developing technical skills to apply accounting procedures and rules in order
to develop an understanding of how economic events are recorded in the financial
statements. In addition, it focuses on preparing and interpreting financial statements.
Therefore, this course will develop the student’s knowledge of both preparation and use
of financial statements as they relate to the fields of accounting. At the end of this course,
the student can be able to:

(1). Understand the Accounting Conceptual Framework and underlying principles
of accounting applications and procedures.
(2). Analyze the effects of transactions and events on an entity’s financial
condition and demonstrate an understanding of International Financial Reporting
Standards (IFRS) and Vietnamese Accounting System (VAS).
(3). Apply IFRS and VAS technical concepts to prepare and present financial
statements and related disclosures
5. COURSE CONTENT
The course coverage will include an in-depth review of the financial accounting and
accounting standards, conceptual framework for financial reporting, the accounting
information system, and some issues related to the financial statements such as income
statement, balance sheet and statement of cash flow. The course will place emphasis on
accounting and the time of money, cash and receivables, valuation of inventories,
acquisition and disposition of property, plant and equipment.

9. COURSE REQUIREMENTS & GRADING POLICY

Class Participant
All students are expected to attend classes. If students are absent, they are responsible for
what they have missed. Students are expected to read the textbook before coming to
class. Students are encouraged to ask relevant questions, make pertinent comments, and
present answers to questions raised during class. Some quizzes will be given at random
during the term. Class participation points will be based on class attendance, contribution
in class and result of quizzes.
Exams
Both mid-term and final exams are closed-book. They contain problem-solving
questions.
