3.75(c)(1)(i)
Housing facilities, general.
Some of the primate night house enclosures have surfaces that cannot be effectively cleaned. There is excessive rust on
the sliding metal doors in the spider monkey night house. There is an area of rust with a hole in the center on an upper
track of a sliding metal door in the spot-nosed guenon and colobus night house.
Surfaces that are excessively rusted may harbor organic matter or germs that could be harmful to the resident animals.
Rust can weaken the structural integrity of the underlying surface.
Correct by 6/8/24 by ensuring that the surfaces in nonhuman primate enclosures are free from excessive rust.
3.125(c)
Facilities, general.
Some animal food is not being properly stored:
***The walk-in cooler (refrigerator) is not working. Perishable food for animals including cut produce, prepared meals, and
thawing meat was stored in the cooler which was 65 degrees Fahrenheit at the time of inspection. Some fruit flies were
observed in the cooler landing on uncovered food.
***There are open bags of bulk animal feed (pellets) in the bulk storage room.
Animal food that is not properly stored may become contaminated, unwholesome, or degraded. Animals may develop
health issues as a result of consuming improperly stored food.
Correct by 4/10/24 by storing food so that it is adequately protected from deterioration, molding, and contamination;
refrigeration shall be provided for perishable foods.
3.131(d)
Sanitation.
There is evidence of widespread rodent activity in the shelter structures (night house buildings) of numerous hoofstock
species including zebra, sable antelope, and red river hog: There is an accumulation of rodent droppings on the floor and
on elevated surfaces. There are also rodent feces in the bulk storage area in the building where feed for these animals is
stored.
Rodents can contaminant animal food and bedding, and can spread germs that may be harmful to animals.

Correct by 6/8/24 by establishing and maintaining a safe and effective program for the control of insects, ectoparasites,
and other pests.
3.133 Critical
Separation.
An adult male klipspringer was killed by an adult male Grevy zebra on 3/23/24. The male klipspringer had been living in
the same enclosure as the zebra for approximately 5 years with no signs of incompatibility until March 2024. On 3/9/24
the zebra displayed signs of severe aggression after which the animals were separated temporarily. The animals were re-
introduced and the death occurred a few days later.
Animals may suffer from stress, injury, or death when housed with other animals with which they are incompatible.
Correct by 4/8/24 by ensuring that animals housed in the same enclosure are compatible, and that animals are not
housed near other animals that interfere with their health or that cause them discomfort. Corrected at the time of
inspection.
3.153(a)(1)(i)
Primary enclosures.
The enclosure housing one hybrid macaw and 4 yellow-crowned amazon parrots has a few wooden perches that have
been severely chewed, exposing approximately a dozen metal nails that are sticking up and out of the perches. While no
birds have been injured, the presence of sharp points in the enclosure may be a hazard for the birds. Correct by 5/8/23 by
ensuring that primary enclosures for birds have no sharp points or edges that could harm the birds.

This inspection and exit interview were conducted with a facility representative.
