TUTOR GUIDE
PREAMBLE:
This document aims to serve as a guide to support tutors in their presentation of the various topics
that form part of the Grade 12 support programme.
Tutors must draw on their teaching experiences in order to adapt, select from, emphasise and
expand on sections of the material so that they can facilitate the learning process.
INSTRUCTIONAL DESIGN:
The suggested tutoring design should focus on:
1. Clear, detailed “teaching moments” which cover the content and skills.
2. The use of different teaching methodologies to mediate the material effectively.
3. Explaining concepts, processes and terminology.
4. Providing opportunities for learners to practise questions.
5. Explaining the meaning of instructional verbs of questions.
6. Explaining the types of questions asked in question papers and the way in which learners
should present their answers.
7. Giving feedback to learners.
8. Consolidation of what has been covered.

QUESTION 1
ANSWER MARK ALLOCATION TOT
1.1.1 Nr units = 38 × 31 M 1 M Multiply
= 1 178 units A 1 A Answer (2)
1.1.2 Cost = Fixed charges RT + Electricity 1 RT Add fixed charges
Charge per kWh RT 1 RT Charge per kWh (2)
Accept:
Cost = R700,15 + number of kWh
used(R0,9568)
1.1.3 Cost = R700,15 + (1 178 × R0,9568) SF 1 SF Substitute formula
= R700,15 + R1 127,11 S 1 S Simplify
= R1 827,26 CA 1 CA Answer (3)
1.1.4 Cost = (13,22×31) M + (10,35×31) +
(1 178×0,8621) SF + (0,1864×31) 1 M Multiply by 31
1 SF Substitute 1 178
= R409,82 + 320 85 + 1 015,55 + 5,78 (from 1.1.1)
= R1 752 CA 1 CA Answer (3)
1.1.5 Nr units = 1 178 – 50 M 1 M Subtract 50
= 1 128 CA 1 CA Answer (2)
1.1.6 B= 100 A 3 A Answer
C= 300 A
D= more than 450 A
(3)
1.1.7 Monthly electricity cost: 1RT using values from (2.1.6)
50 units × R0,00 = R 0,00 1M finding 728
100 units RT × R0,695 = R 69,55 CA 1CA finding 69,55+241,05
300 units × R0,8035 = R 241,05 1CA 790,46
1CA Total cost
728 units RT × R1,0858 = R 790,46 CA (5)
= R1 101,06 CA
