Quadrate method:
According to the cited source, the seasonal variation in the population and burrowing pattern
of the brachyuran crab Ocypode ceretophthalma was studied using the quadrate sampling
method. The study involved randomly laying 50 quadrates (each measuring 1m2) on the
sandy shore of each study site on a monthly basis. Three ecological attributes (density,
abundance, and frequency of occurrence) were quantified based on data collected from
different observations made within the quadrate area, such as the total number of burrows
and the opening diameter of selected burrows. The data collected on a monthly basis was
compiled for different seasons.
Population ecology :
The population ecology attributes like density, abundance and frequency was calculated for
each site .
Choosen attributes of population like density ,abundance and frequency were determined in
view of a normal number of marine brachyuran crabs each chosen sites. These
environmental ascribes were determined by following standard formulas ( Misra, 1968)
