ABOUT THE INSTITUTE
Educating youth Ior better job opportunities and enable them to achieve economic
empowerment is the vision Ior establishing Gandhi Institute.

Today, computer literacy is a must Ior any young person aspiring Ior a job. In the
nineties oI the previous century such exposure was given by many institutes purely
on commercial basis. Young people, particularly Irom the economically weaker
sections, could not aIIord such training and were thereIore unable to get the
available jobs because oI lack oI computer skills. To address this situation the
Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan (BVB) launched the Bhavan`s Gandhi Institute oI
Computer Education and InIormation Technology (BGI), thanks to a generous
donation. The Iirst BGI centre was launched in Mumbai on July 23, 1996 by Dr.
Manmohan Singh (then Finance Minister and at present the Prime Minster oI
India).
BGI was established in 1996 under the aegis oI the BVB one oI the largest NGOs
in the world, with a mission to serve the society. The BVB has been propagating
the great values and traditions oI our culture and while doing so has not lost sight
oI the current social milieu.

O Free computer training to the economically weaker sections oI the society.
O Design and implement job oriented practical computer training programmes.
O Cyclical time-bound programmes oI three months duration to beneIit
maximum population.
O cquire selI conIidence through structured selI learning skills.
O Ensure better job opportunities and enable the youth Ior selI employment.

HISTORY
ith the donation oI $ 1 lakh by Dr. Hogen Fukunaga to Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan
in November 1995, the Computer Institute was started. The Institute was named
aIter the Father oI the Nation in his 125th birth anniversary year.
The main objective oI Bhavan's Gandhi Institute oI Computer Education &
InIormation Technology is to help students in weaker sections oI the Society
irrespective oI caste, creed and religion. The thrust oI the programme is to help
them become computer literate and secure placment in the job market with Iull
conIidence to Iace the interviewers. ll this is sought to be achieved by providing
totally Iree training with the help oI experts and Iree supply oI study material.

The course which I had taken was ccount ssistance Course, and topics cover in
this course were MicrosoIt ord, MicrosoIt excel and Tally 9.
In MicrosoIt ord, we studied about how to start, quit and description oI
MicrosoIt ord, parts oI documents, saving and closing document, how to apply,
change Ionts, applying color to the text, printing previewing documents.
This also covered how to create table, selecting a cell, row, column on a table.
How to alter the table and change it. Calculating using Iormulas and Iormatting a
table.







Microsoft Excel
This part oI the course gave the Knowledge about how to start Excel and use it.
Opening a blank workbook, entering data, editing, deleting cell contents ,aligning
data in a cell, adding border, coloring cells, project and etc.
It also help to know how to auto Iill, insert row and columns, use Iormulas ,about
Iunctions and structure, types oI Iunctions. How to create diIIerent types oI charts,
3-D charts, editing and modiIying the charts.









Tally 9
Topics cover in this part oI course was to use Tally 9.
In tally, how to create a company, adding Ieatures and conIiguration ,creating
groups and ledger ,creating units stock item and passing the entries Ior purchase
,sales receipts, payments and Journal.
How to check the trial balance, ledger and journals.
How to alter and make the changes in diIIerent types oI account and save the
company.

Being a student oI this great organization and great cause this organization has
initiated I am nothing to give suggestions.
The people here are great and very helpIul in nature.
I can just say this that keep on doing this great work and being helpIul to the
people in very good manner. This will help our people and country make progress
in IT sector and especially to the people who can`t aIIord to do this course Irom
outside.
