You have to be cautious when using websites for research in your essay.

While they may be informative, many websites are not considered academically appropriate or reliable

sources for academic essays. However, technology is allowing an increasing amount of material to be

available online.

_ The newspapers are in italics

Reliable newspapers, such as The Wall Street Journal and The New York Times , have begun

to make your material available online. Additionally, in your role, you may refer to a recent article for Wall

Street Magazine about Pope Francis' response to religious violence in Egypt.6 Likewise, the Pew Research

Center is a reliable source for finding usable statistical information. They report a large part of their findings

on their website. For example, the Pew Research Center recently found two-thirds of Latin American

Protestants self-identified as Pentecostals.7

of letters and numbers that indicate the exact location of the book in the library. It is the standard for all libraries in the United
States to use the same numbering system.

When writing the body of the document, there are several other factors to take into
account.
If you include a quote that is five lines or more, you will need to put it in what is called

like a block quote.

For example, you might consider Tony Richie's testimony theology statement:

Testimony is closely related to testifying, although the former focuses on the issue
of truth and the latter on the facts of an event. Theologically, testimony is
important as it relates to a person's 'understanding of faith,' and why or how a

If the quote is four lines or less, you simply cite the author in standard format.

For example, you can quote John Christopher Thomas who says, “It is this inspired confession

describes how “the cross confronts violence.” 12 Article citations must include the

Conclusion

We hope this manual has been informative to you as you embark on your Seminary

journey. Learning to be a good writer includes learning the techniques or mechanics of the

Chicago/Turabian style. When you start learning this style, this can be tedious at times, but then

it will become second nature to you. If there is ever a point where you have unanswered

questions or if you are overwhelmed with not knowing how to write, remember that the Writing

Center is here to help you! We wish you great success in your Seminar experience and in your

future writing endeavors!
