By: Cynthia Chavez & Jose Vazquez

&nit Plan Overview:
This will be a four day lesson plan in which students will be able to discuss
pollution, along with its causes and effects. Also, they will discover ways to reduce the
amount of resources they utilize on a daily basis and ways in which they can contribute
for a cleaner Earth. During this lesson plan, students will be able to bring awareness to
others by decorating borrowed paper bags from local grocery stores. They will end by
applying their knowledge in a game called "Balance the Earth. The unit is designed for
third grade and it will focus on Earth science. For teaching purposes, the class size will
be a max of 40 students.

on their whiteboards along with a reason as to why it is a certain type of pollution.
Example: Air pollution because there is smog in the air.
7) Once finished, they will complete the worksheet on pollution.
8) Each student will create 3 questions and answers from what they have learned
and write them on three separate flash cards. Note: The questions need to be
different from the rest of the members at their table.

Lesson Plan Overview:
Teacher and students will discuss some solutions to Pollution and what each of
us can do to help our Earth.
Lesson Objectives:
SWBAT identify solutions to pollution
SWBAT recognize the international symbol for recycling and the phrase: Reduce,
Reuse, Recycle
SWBAT create their own ways they can contribute in helping our Earth
Lesson Plan:
1) Teacher will review the three types of pollution.
Teacher will then move on to introduce the recycle sign and the phrase
"Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle.
Teacher will then introduce a website called "Friends For Change by Disney
in which celebrities discuss ways kids can help our environment.
Students will work together to brain storm ways in which they have observed
recycling or any form of re-using. Examples: water bottles.
Students will take a "field trip around the school to see what the school is
doing to help the environment.
% They will look for recycling bins and see if they can observe any type of
pollution being distributed.
% Once they return to the classroom, each student will complete the worksheet
on recycling.
% Also, they will create three questions and answers in accordance to what they
have learned. Note: The questions need to be different from the rest of the
members at their table.

Lesson Plan Overview:
Students will participate in a game so as to study for Friday's test.
Lesson Objectives:
SWBAT recall facts about pollution and recycling
SWBAT apply their new found knowledge to participate in a class game
Nevada Standards:
E.2 B students understand there are objects in the sky.
E.2 C Students know Earth is composed of different kinds of materials.
L.2 C Students know plants and animals need certain resources for
energy and growth.
L. 2 D Students understand that there are many kinds of living things on

N. 2 A Students know observable patterns can be used to predict future

Lesson Plan:
Students will be grouped into groups of four.
They will then participate in a "Balance The World Game
a. Students will put in all of their question cards together to form a stack
of about 24 questions.
b. 21 of the markers will be on the side of the "polluted Earth on the
hanger, with three extra markers in the middle.
c. Students will each take a turn asking and answering a question.
d. f correct, they get to place a marker on the side of the "healthy Earth,
and they place the card in one pile. f incorrect, they get to place a
marker on the "Polluted Earth, and the card will be placed into another
pile to indicate the question was answered wrong.
e. Once all of the cards have been used, students will go back to wrong
answer pile and answer them again.
f. The objective of the game is to get all of the markers on the healthy
side.
Once all groups have finished, team members can alternate so as to play with
different classmates.
At the end of the lesson, everyone will join in a class discussion as to what
was learned.
The teacher will present recycled reusable products and have students pass
them around to better observe them.
Teaching Method:
Group Work
Materials:
About 10 hangers
24 markers for each group (240)
Earth pictures to distinguish which side is "healthy and which side is "polluted
Question cards students have accumulated.
