Summary: Students will write a short detailed story about a trip that they have taken or want to take. Target Population: O 2 nd Grade, Grade Level, Small Group Details of the Lesson Plan: O -ectives W.2.3. Write narratives in which they recount a well elaborated event or short sequence oI events, include details to describe actions, thoughts, and Ieelings, use temporal words to signal event order, and provide a sense oI closure. O Procedures During writing time when students separate into groups, one group will come to this center Ior writing. Students will read the directions Irom the center and write their own stories. They will start by Iilling out a bubble map oI ideas about their trip. They will then Iill out the sequence outline where they put the events in order. When they have their order oI events, they will share with their group Ior the group to help edit. The center will also have mini booklets available along with colored markers and pencils. The center also has one example Ior the students to see beIore they start their Iinal draIt. Students will make their Iinal draIts Irom their edited sequences oI events and include drawings that help show their details Irom the story. O #eflection I Ieel like this will be an easy way Ior students to express their creativity. They can explain a trip they have been on or want to go on. I think reading the book; The day Jimmy`s Boa ate the Wash Iirst beIore they start this center will make it easier Ior them and give them an idea on how they should be thinking when they start. I know this center is not designed Ior the students to Iinish in 15 minutes, but is a center that will take several times going to beIore they will actually Iinish a Iinal draIt. The main problem I Ieel that a teacher would have with this, is they will probably need to be circling the room and checking up on the students at this center to make sure they are doing the work they are supposed to be doing. This could very easily be turned into group sharing time about their Iavorite trips, and they will get nothing done. As long as the students are writing down the ideas they are coming up with and making progress, than it will be beneIicial Ior them. O ReIerences & Materials All materials will be Iound at the center. Idea was taken Irom page 33C Irom Harcourt Trophies book Second grade, theme one, book 2-2.
